As the cost of gas goes nuclear, the GOP intend to make Barack Obama pay the price. Conveniently ignoring the complex realities that contribute to the price of energy, Republicans will attempt to convince those voters operating on the outer limits of the intellect bandwidth spectrum that Barack Obama is solely responsible for the pain they're feeling at the pump.
While in actuality the GOP is quite correct (in a most disingenuous manor), when the facts of the issue are fully vetted, the administration's policy of instigating crippling sanctions against the Iranians did triggered the escalation of oil prices. However only a complete fool would believe GOP Congressional stooges or Presidential wannabes would have undertaken any other course of action.
Based upon the omnipresent hyper support for Israel rhetoric, one could even argue had a Republican been in the White House, the United States would've already dropped a few super-duper bunker busters.
We find it difficult to imagine the Israelis coming to the United States, asking for assistance in thwarting the efforts of a local mad man threatening to annihilate the Chosen People and their request being denied delayed or even debated. Christian Republicans and Democrats alike would've been falling all over themselves placing America in further hock to pay for Israel's security. No matter who occupies the White House, that is just the deal.
The more likely response, albeit as private as possible is closer to: what do you need, how much and when and where do you want it delivered? Concerns of cost or consequences, be they domestic or international carry little if any consideration.
With this scenario playing itself out in a hotly contested election cycle, we see oil prices playing the heavy in the slowing economic recovery story at least until the end of 2012.
BTW, WTF happened to the Occupy Movement
