If your world seems as though things are spinning out of control, don't tamper with your mental/emotional dial for there is nothing wrong with you. Everyone's world, all over the world is spinning out control. Some are more aware than others, while many are just dizzy without an explanation.
The world simply has far more problems than those responsible for addressing them can handle. We think the inability to find refine and propose "creative" "out of the box" solutions to effectuate relief from mounting global pressures is rooted in the West's diminishing capacity for change.
Global management has stayed static too long. While the world has undergone unimaginable transformation in the last 75 years, the method of managing global affairs has not kept pace. As the world's web-like connections continue to tangle via, commerce, social media, conflict and the inevitable cultural alchemy, current global leadership is fixated on addressing and resolving crisis in an archaically nationalistic and piecemeal manor.
Witnessing the European Union incompetently grapple with its self inflicted economic calamity is almost as laughable as watching the Americans embarrass themselves as they stupidly lost its AAA credit rating, following that idiocy with a failed Super Committee. One could say we're making a case for a one world governing body with final authority to recommend and implement Democratically approved solutions to any festering issue anywhere on the planet.
Being well aware many think this concept dangerous, we would argue the world is already ready for said style of governance. Seeing Syria suffer while the international community seems totally stymied exposes the world's sorry state of affairs.
Clearly, uniformity of global governance is key to violent conflict resolution moving forward. The challenge is getting world leaders to acquiesce to true parity among nation states. Those holding power will have to be convinced they'll not lose territorial sovereignty or national independence in order to cooperate, compromise and collaborate to reach timely and binding agreements to any issues anywhere.
Be it war, famine, natural disaster, internal strife or an international conflict, globally agreed upon protocols would be activated to head-off acts of aggression and the need for any form of retaliation. Everyone everywhere would know how everything works all the time.
A complete revamping of the UN's Charter will need to be achieved and signed off on by all member states order for it to have final authority status when intervening on behalf of humanity and overall global interest. Perhaps the UN may need to be scrapped in favor of something else completely.
However, until we evolve to such a "golden era", we're still working on what to do about Syria, while trying to anticipate the next nation that might want to get sprung.
Issues Under Fire returns Monday.
