Issues Under Fire: "Libelous" Charges By Abbas Should Be Challenged in International Court
Although foreign policy is holding its own in competition with the infotainment coverage of the U.S.' 2012 election, many media outlets failed to realize a major story angle blatantly screaming for attention.
During all the hoopla caused by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's mere presence and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's retrograde presentation of Iran's nuclear capabilities, Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas was busy, leveling some of the wickedest charges of racism, apartheid and crimes against humanity at the Israeli government.
How the good people of Israel, the fine professionals of the IDF and the peace and security loving settlers of Israel's ever expanding borders could accept such accusations without little more than an utterance in their defense is astounding. Truly this is a testament to Israel's eternally forgiving nature.
However in all fairness, shouldn't the Israeli government demand proof in open an court to salvage its sterling reputation as seekers of peace and prosperity for all? Israel, home of the holy of holies can't allow this outrageous injustice to remain unchallenged. When Prime Minister Netanyahu stated the differences between Israel and the Palestinians could not be settled by libelous statement at the UN, we could not agree more.
In our opinion, the world should allow Israel the opportunity to defend itself against these latest horrendous allegations. The Palestinians should be made to show proof of their terrible claims. They should be compelled to bring witnesses, provide documentation and credible evidence to support this slander. How dare they be allowed to sully and besmirch the good name of Israel so recklessly. The nerve!
Normally, we too would just blow this angle off in favor of the more salacious back and forth between President Obama and his rival, "America's Biggest Loser". But in the interest of justice, we're calling on the Israeli government to fight back with the truth. We recommend Israel grant unfettered access to the international press and other global humanitarian entities to objectively gather information from all concerned in preparation for a fair, impartial and very public hearing of the aforementioned.
Knowing what we know of the Israeli government, we are confident when the world has seen what places like Gaza and the Palestinian territories resemble with their own eyes, said eyes will be opened like they've never been opened before. After recent public relations disasters such as the Turkish flotilla incident and the infamous Goldstone Report , we're sure the Israeli government would benefit greatly from clearing the air and removing any doubt as to whom is telling the truth and whom is fabricating falsehoods to garner sympathy.
Furthermore, if President Obama is the true friend of Israel he insist he is, we are recommending his first act of his second term as leader of the free world, should be to push for such an unprecedented legal forum to finally and fully understand this six decade old Israeli Palestinian conflict.
