Issues Under Fire: After Palestinian Win, Let the Trials Begin

In breaking with the Obama administration, we are congratulating the Palestinians on taking the initiative in bringing their case to the world. Defying tremendous pressure to continue beating their bloody heads against Israeli walls, the Palestinian Authority sought and received long overdue recognition from the international community.

Where their new global status takes them from here remains uncertain, but one thing is for sure, they have new options and a platform to air grievances. (Al Jazeera, one our trusted news sources has an interesting and informative perspective above.) Heretofore, any and all complaints of war crimes, human right abuses, collective punishment, continued settlement expansion and the open air prison they've been relegated to have been marginalized by U.S. and Israeli efforts under the guise of endlessly fruitless peace talks.

After 60 plus years of unmitigated suffering, the Palestinians have found a new approach. A new approach that promises to deliver new results. By a vote of 138 favoring the Palestinian cause, 9 against and 41 abstentions, the United States was thoroughly rebuked in the UN General Assembly. Israel, the United States and Canada could only muster the 7 minuscule nations of Micronesia, Czech Republic, Panama, the Marshal Islands, Nauru and the Republic of Palau to continue the madness. The world is clearly fed up and decidedly moving in another direction.

Left with few options, flunkies in Congress like Chuck Schumer, Bob Menendez, Lindsey Graham and some other schmuck embarrassingly went before cameras and threatened the Palestinian people with withholding funding if they even consider seeking legal redress in the international court. Fearing the IDF and Israeli politicians could face serious international charges of crimes against humanity, the U.S. Congressional representatives went on the offensive defending the status quo with pathetic, defiant, retaliatory and shrill threats.
