Issues Under Fire: W/Thumbs-down Vote on Palestinian Statehood Obama Degrades Legacy
With out mincing words, a vote against Palestinian Statehood is a vote for the continued dehumanizing degradation of millions of innocents. If Legacy means anything to President Barack Obama, he should know this action has damaged it significantly.
When it comes to Palestinian Statehood, President Obama is clearly on the wrong side of history. The world has spoken over the decades, speaks today and will continue to speak out of the despicable and atrocious behaviors of Israel towards the people of Palestine. To think the international community has accepted, condoned or ignored America's unyielding support for said behaviors.
The Obama administration's vote to block Palestinian Statehood at the UN, is in our opinion undeniably "uncool" and thoroughly unforgivable. It is a act devoid or conscience or the full appreciation for consequence. And there will be consequences.
Knowing what he has to know about how the world works, and still maintain the status quo of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is mind boggling when evaluating President Obama's Middle-East foreign policy. As far a timing is concerned, there is none better than now, in taking a bold step into the future Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.
Extracted from an article in the Daily Beast Open Zion Channel, former Israeli Prime Minister is quoated as stating" “that the Palestinian request from the United Nations is congruent with the basic concept of the two-state solution. Therefore, I see no reason to oppose it. Once the United Nations will lay the foundation for this idea, we in Israel will have to engage in a serious process of negotiations, in order to agree on specific borders based on the 1967 lines, and resolve the other issues. It is time to give a hand to, and encourage, the moderate forces amongst the Palestinians. Abu-Mazen"—an alias for Abbas—"and Salam Fayyad need our help. It's time to give it.”
Barack Obama could have taken that bold step at this time in history and broken the shackles of all previous American presidencies. A step that would have re-calibrated the path to real peace in the region and beyond. It would have given those who hate the United States something else to think about other than America's unbridled support for their tormentors. It would have been a step the world expects from a global leader beholding to nothing but freedom, justice, equality and democratic principals for all.
While the ramifications of Barack Obama's complicity in prolonging the agony those living in squalor and despair won't impact his domestic popularity immediately, the rest of the world has a very long memory for those who do wrong. And no matter who you spin this event, President Obama is wrong. This could be Barack Obama's Rwanda!
BTW, We're not quite back yet, but somethings just can't go without comment.
