Failing to remove the debt ceiling debate from further consideration was a serious error. Upon closer review of the so called fiscal cliff negotiations, President Obama should never have relinquished his stance over this critical issue. Leaving a small, but determined minority with the ability to derail the world's economy without a foolproof fail-safe provision to protect the interest the majority is tantamount to gross negligence.
Simply stating he'll refuse to entertain the idea of allowing the debt ceiling issue be apart of any talks going forward, belies the realities of those opposing the President's positions. It almost seems ludicrous for the President Obama to presume he can occupy the high ground in this battle for the world's fiscal survival when contending with a mindset convinced crashing the world's economy is the only way left to fix it. From the radicalized Right's point of view, if at first you don't succeed, try and try again. This is Dangerous!
A mere cursory review of recent history will instantly remind one, of how far staunch conservative ideologues will go to achieve their goals. From shutting down the government and sending thousands of taxpaying government workers on furlough during the Clinton administration, to their blind brinksmanship in 2011 that lead to the US' first credit downgrade in history, the GOP seem to relish engaging in the scorched earth policies. Reckless or feckless, you'll have to judge for yourselves, but neither is acceptable conduct for any manner of responsible governance.
Let us be clear, how the obstinate obstructionistic GOP comported itself over the last four years, has been no less than treacherously treasonous. Having no compunction to change cooperate or heavens forbid compromise, it may be incumbent upon President Obama to provide the nation and global economic players, some form of assurance that he is truly in control. From the vantage point of the casual observer, one has to wonder.
