When we find ourselves challenged to locate something interesting, engaging and newsworthy to chat about, we generally realize its only because there is simply nothing interesting, engaging or newsworthy going on. That being the case for the projected week ahead, we're just gathering remnants of loose ends to piece together something worth posting.
Afghanistan is a lost war, so it won't be continued. How any future stories about the drawn down of American forces in Afghanistan can be considered really "newsworthy", when every thinking person interested already knows Afghanistan was a lost cause from the word "Go" is the only mystery. As soon as conditions are favorable for the U.S. to slip out without too much attention, America's involvement will be go down in history like all the other "losers" who've tried to recreate Afghanistan in is own image. Hey, it is what it is!
We've determined, Syria too is a lost cause for the time being. Despite tens of thousands dead and hundreds of thousands fleeing to neighboring nations, the facts concerning the Syrian issue remain as complex and confusing as ever. When an issue of Syria's magnitude remain complex and confusing for too long and only simple minds are tasked with addressing said issue, the issue will simply be tabled. Unless you like watching the daily body count rise, there is preciously little news to report.
American gun violence won't change American gun laws, because Americans will continue to be Americans. In the end, Americans will continue to settle for pathetic candlelight vigils, makeshift roadside memorials and heart wrenching eulogies for the innocent victims to assuage its pain. The ugly truth hiding in plain sight is, America is more than willing to pay the price of senseless violence for unfettered access to firearms. Again, it is what it is!
Despite the upcoming elections in Israel that will undoubtedly drive the Israeli government recklessly to the far Right of sanity, it will undoubtedly continue to receive America's unwavering support. We'd be willing to bet a bunch of money on this one, because according to Congress that's just the way it is.
Iran will continue to enrich uranium to what ever levels they choose in the face of even more crippling sanctions. We'll let you know how ballsy the Israelis want to get over the Iranian nuclear row in about three weeks. Hence, Iran too has been placed on the back burner for the moment.
Finally, there will be no grand bargain on the U.S. economy, because Congress will continue to be Congress. The debt ceiling fight, sequestration and anything else that can be kicked down the road, will be just that, kicked down the road. Why, because Congress will continue to be Congress.
