Issues Under Fire: Note to the World, America No Longer Takes Prisoners

brennan_hearings

We, like many around the world watched the confirmation hearing for CIA director nominee John Brennan with great interest. Eagerly awaiting his responses to questions from a well prepared and thoroughly informed Senate Intelligence Committee, we regret to report, that long wait was for naught.

Since the Obama administration still refuse to release "all" pertinent documents related to the Justice Department's legal justification for targeted assassinations, many committee members were at an obvious disadvantage when trying to pry answers from the clever nominee.

That said, the disarmingly soft spoken CIA trained Brennan, gave a steady, sharp, clear, smooth and slippery when wet performance. Belying the savage nature of his career choice, Mr. Brennan artfully dodged the most troublesome of queries relating to torture, prisoners and America's partners who torture our prisoners.

Once again, because the Obama administration won't fess up, we don't know if the U.S. is still contracting out its beat-down work, or doing it in-house on the down-low. BTW, Note to World: America No longer Takes Prisoners. Really!

Whether its no longer cost effective or just to damn complicated, the data will prove beyond a shadow of doubt, America would much prefer to Cap your ass than Cuff it. From what we were able to discern from Mr. Brennan's testimony, on the rare occasion a "combatant", "militant" or for the lack of any other description " a bad guy", is detained, they're interrogated in some secret place for a short while.

Sometimes those secret places could be on ships parked in international waters. Grey Bar Hotel's on the high seas can be convenient for lots of reasons. Most notably, interrogators get to play by a different set of rules when they have their little chats offshore. An added benefit is realized immediately when the "interviews" goes badly. Disposal of evidence is a snap.

For the toughest of the tough, they're eventually transfered to "partners" to be interrogated some more. What exactly happens to these "really bad guys" after there's nothing left to interrogate remains a mystery to this day. However, one can only imagine, once in the hands of our "partners", how these people are simply disposed of quietly into the fog of war.

Because the White House is determined to stonewall the American people over what could be some of the most important/damning documents to describe and define the nation, we're forced to read between the lines to understand what the hell is going on. This of course is always dangerous, as it's human nature to assume the worst.

President Obama may get his pick for CIA director, but in the process, he is damaging what could have been a decent legacy. Too many ugly questions remain unanswered
