US legislators, clearly unconcerned with deep and biting budget cuts scheduled to be triggered March 1, have many around the world wondering, WTF? Apparently those responsible for reaching an agreement (of any kind) have determined nothing can be done, so they're simply not going to bother anymore. That's it! As amazing as that sounds, that's it.
With the world watching, the US Congress is poised to voluntarily commit economic suicide. Like Rome's Emperor Nero, the nation's legislative leadership has found time to fiddle around while its citizenry has to await the merciless budget axe to hack their lives apart.
President Obama, we trust had a well deserved respite golfing with friends and Congressional Representatives presumably are doing likewise. Most back home and ignoring their constituents as per usual, from all appearances there is nothing to worry about at all.
However, the nation/world have been left in a lurch. While the country's leadership lollygags, everybody from the American worker to the global investor, is now wondering how could such an incompetent irresponsible inhumane body of government be allowed to continue operating without consequences.
Please don't think we'd begrudge America's find hardworking public servants adequate time to recuperate from the grueling task of talking in circles. Hell, we're dizzy just listening to them. But god Damn!
The fact that hundreds of thousands face unemployment, a "rudderless" military will be cut the bone, with social programs taking a wicked slashing and nervous markets wreaking havoc on 401K's is not registering with Congress or the White House as a problem to stick with, is a problem we have to stick with.
While much ado is being made of the decades old immigration red herring, we think the ugliness of a nation committing economic suicide by a thousand self-inflicted budget cuts is a much gorier tale. The only thing worst than seeing America economically eviscerate itself through thousands of arbitrary and dangerous across the board budget cuts, is watching the world helplessly stand by with no means to intervene. We'll stay on "Sequestration Watch" until the bloody end.
