Issues Under Fire: Pushed or Pulled, President Obama Could Stumble in Syria

Escaping the searing heat of domestic and international scandals over spying, President Obama probably welcomed his trip to Ireland for the G-8 Summit. But after having his hand forced to consider arming the so called Syrian rebels, Obama may have just jumped out of the frying pan into the fire.
The U.S. President will find himself tongue tied trying to explain why the United States won't exhaust all options to bring about a peaceful and political solution in Syrian, before escalating the violence though taking sides in the civil war. Domestically, just 15 percent polled said they favor U.S. military action, and only 11 percent want to provide arms to the opposition.
Apparently succumbing to intensifying heat from the Left and Right, the White House has decided to ignore the American people's clear preference for sitting this military adventure out and is now pressing forward with the initial stages of military intervention.
Where He Went Wrong
Failing to firmly establish America's independence from external interest lobbying for the removal of Bashar al-Assad, (no matter what), the Obama administration found itself at the mercy of said interest. Failing to recognize and quickly accept the stark differences between the Arab Spring and the Syrian crisis left the window of hope open too long.
The Obama administration should have immediately lead the way for peaceful and political solutions through negotiation rather than letting the Russians grab the moral high ground. Demanding for the Syrian leader step down as the only acceptable outcome was an overreach. We think this overreach was encouraged and instigated by really powerful special interest with really powerful connections.
After former President Bill Clinton weighed in to say U.S. intervention should been seen as a good thing, Barack Obama was left with nothing to head off to the big meeting but some flimsy evidence and a pack of lies.
Having throughly infiltrated the U.S. Congressional body, that interest has amassed such strong bipartisan support for an even more robust contribution of U.S. arms to Bashar al-Assad's enemies, the president was virtually boxed in from the very start. If there's one thing we've learned about the American political process, whenever there's bipartasan support for anything, powerful special interest is the driving force behind the scenes.
Since the G-8 Summit will primarily center around Syria's civil war and what a proper international response should be, showing up at the annual gathering with questionable evidence, President Obama has the awkward task of hard selling the world on militarily engaging another Arab nation for using WMD's. With U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon casting doubt as to the validity of said claims from the U.S. , the U.K.,  France and Israel, the greater international community will likely lean toward the Russian/China approach.
As President Obama announces the U.S's  decision to arm of the Syrian opposition, while U.S. Congressional leaders call for a full blown no fly zone with all the trimmings, oddly, Russian President Putin is sounding like the voice of reason. One can only marvel over this mystery.

On the other hand, we don't like mysteries. Hence, we're going to approach this Syrian crisis and the West's response to it as a potential crime to solve. We think establishing motive will shed some light as to who wants the fighting to continue and why. More tomorrow
