Issues Under Fire: Must Be Tough Trying to Lead by Lies

Must Be Tough Trying to Lead by Lies

A little early to be playing hooky considering the summer break just ended. But spending the day contemplating what it must be like for President Obama avoiding glaring stares and utter contempt from his counterparts at the G20 is no way to spend a beautiful pre-fall afternoon. Sorry, no podcast today, but we do have some thoughts to share.
How does President Obama look Dilma Rouseff, President of Brazil in the eye and explain all those stories about the NSA spying on her internet search activities. How does he look Mexico's President  Enrique Pena Nieto in the eye and explain with a straight face, monitoring his e-mails was just a harmless prank.
While President Obama is trying desperately to distance himself from the sins of his "lying ass warmongering" predecessors, he's finding himself building up quite a reputation for someone not to be trusted along the way.
Like the G8, the 2013 G20 Summit agenda is being dominated by the proxy battle between the “United States/Israeli Union” and the rest of the sane world within Syria's civil war. Whatever global economic initiatives talks and agreements being considered, will be overshadowed by the United States' insistence on military intervention.
While the world is pushing for a political solution, the United States is spoiling for a fight. President Obama's task at this meeting is to convince a justifiably apprehensive, skeptical, disbelieving and fed up international community to give the United States their trust one more time.
Not being a liar, this writer would make a lousy confidence man and an even worse politician. Fortunately, President Obama has had sufficient time in office to develop these skills, because that's what its going to take to gain the support the administration is seeking.
President Obama will have to create an argument so compelling, some of the most cunning strategist on the planet will suspend common sense to follow his lead. Unfortunately, so far the response remains, "No F-ing Way!" Besides, any fool foolish enough to follow the folly will find themselves finished at home.
Quite frankly, most wouldn't have the balls to ask for somebody's trust, if they had the baggage of lies President Obama has to schlepp around the world with. It must be tough being branded a liar. Like a regrettable tattoo, that shit sticks!
