Israel Answers Iran With Insults
Refusing to accept regional neighbors as equals will be the primary reason any negotiations involving Israel are doomed to fail. After carefully reviewing the speeches, actions and recent efforts of all interested parties to the Israeli-Iranian, Israeli-Palestinian, Israeli-Syrian Conflicts, its become evident, Israel has no intentions of negotiating in good faith with any regional foes and never have.
Striking and maintaining a superior tone, Benjamin Netanyahu made every effort to insult instigate and derail any chance for constructive dialog moving forward. The tiny nation's leader seemed more interested in picking a fight than starting a conversation. Considering Israel's brutish history in dealing with its neighbors, one can easily make a prima facie case, that at its core Israel simply don't respect the Iran, the Palestinians, Syria or any other regional neighbor as an equal.
Israel to the World: We're the Exceptional Ones
In reality, the Israelis don't even see their regional neighbors as "people". Perhaps this attitude of superiority is a hold over from the Western colonial days or maybe they're still stuck on that Chosen People thing. Perhaps the Israelis feel they are truly the "Exceptional Ones".
But, no matter how you cut it, having to engage an adversary presenting itself as God's gift to the world, its unlikely you're ever gonna be taken seriously. Hence, the Israelis modus operandi heretofore has been to mange and control its neighbors, not to negotiate with them.
Conversely, the Iranians have come to the West with a mission to settle current disputes and not to settle old scores. Since the free and open election of Iran's President Hassan Rouhani their message has been consistent and conciliatory. The Iranians have made but one demand throughout the years of on again off again talks and international inspections. The Iranians have demanded to be treated as with respect dignity nation and as an equal.
They have too much national pride and self respect to allow themselves to be treated like suspects and criminals just to satisfy the West's need to exert its authority over the rest of the world. The Iranians are unlikely to allow Western powers to lay bare their entire nation for the benefit of Israel's security concerns while the Israelis maintain the most lethal arsenal of WMD'S in the region.
Its inconceivable the Iranians or any self respecting sovereign nation would allow themselves to be thuggishly dictated to, patronized or made to jump through hoops to assuage a pack of antagonistic paranoid vagabonds. While the stated fears of WMD's posing a threat to Israel and beyond may be valid, said fears have yet to be validated by anyone but the Israelis.
If there is to be any hope of a positive outcome to the upcoming talks in Geneva, Israel and the West must moderate its tone and approach their counterparts with the notion that God has no pets and all nations have the potential for exceptionalism.
