The NSA Targets the World
Efforts to quell global angst over revelations the NSA has targeted the entire planet are failing miserably. Left only with the excuse that everybody does it, leaves the administration's ass exposed on yet another front.
Preparing for talks with the Germans and an EU delegation over the NSA, as the Brazilians head to the U.N. seeking international remedies against U.S. surveillance activities, the Obama Administration finds itself up a creep without a paddle.
No agency or institution with the amount of power the NSA has amassed over the decades will ever retreat without a fight. Too much money can be made selling these technologies to the United States government, as well as private entities all too eager to find commercial uses to profit from. Any attempt to reverse the trend toward a global digital lockdown will face staggering opposition.
With Congress lusting after the contributions defense and security contractors can line their political coffers and personal bank accounts with, a little inconvenience like the world's personal privacy has to be seen as a thing of the past. The American people and the world will simply have to be convinced, to live within the confines of the U.S.' invasive and intrusive fishbowl. As long as America and the rest of the world remain reliant upon and or addicted to today's technologies, they'll have to live with the unintended consequences that come with its use.
Now that the technology is here, you can be sure, somebody somewhere, will use it until they've abused it. Like nuclear and chemical weapons, mass surveillance technologies is something the world will have to come to accept.
No one, from the most powerful, to the most insignificant, will ever be sure someone, somewhere isn't listening, watching, monitoring and profiling everything about them. From one's every movement to one's most private thoughts, short of mental telepathy, one will have to always be mindful, one will never enjoy a private moment again. Somewhere in the back of everyone's mind will always be the nagging question of; who else has made themselves apart of my life?
Bottom line: The NSA has not only blanketed the World, but that's always been the United States' intent and the United States has no intentions of turning the clock back. 1984 came as predicted and from the look of things, George Orwell made one hell of a prediction.
