Our America in the New Dark Age Series continues to chronicle the decline of America's standard of living while exposing those responsible for the never-ending slide.
As this new Dark Age ages, few will even remember there was a golden age of peace and prosperity. Granted, those days were short and sporadic, but they lasted long enough to give Americans and the rest of the world (if only vicariously) something to strive for.
But, things have changed: The American lower class is now popular!
No matter how hard you try, pinpointing precisely when the lights started to dim will be difficult, because the transition from hope to hopelessness was so subtle. However, those who still possess the power of reason and analytical thinking, can at least figure out who encouraged, took advantage and prospered from the decline of the American citizen.
At one time, concepts like union representation, labor protections and work life balance were touted as essentials to lifting the common man/woman out of the doldrums and drudgery of dead end jobs and dead end lives. Today, since unions have been so successfully demonized by big business, there is no protection against bad labor practices. And as far as work life balance is concerned, Americans work so hard and so long for so little, there is no life left worth balancing.
Without basic social pillars like solid job security, the investments in public education, the arts and the sciences, Americans have regressed to a simpler and cruder state of existence. Of course, there are outliers to this new norm, but the harsh reality reveals America's masses have been reduced to asses.
While big business and free market capitalism played a leading role in the decline, the mass media big business controls, may have provided the coup de gras. America went from Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver to Weeds and Shameless in less than a few decades.
Cultural icons like Miley Cyrus and Beyonce are both talented and attractive performers, but the message they're revered and rewarded for is their willingness to show and shake a lot of ass. The secret to success in today's world of American arts and entertainment is to keep it "real" keep it "raw" and an keep it "really basic".
Unfortunately, somewhere along that slippery slope, an upwardly mobile white middle-class began to look more like "simple white trash", while a once prideful African American community embraced the "gangsta" life. Tats and thongs, thugs and bongs is how Americans proudly present themselves today.
The fact that the average American cannot see what they've become is all the more tragic. Still, The American Grunt, as they are now known, should be cut some serious slack. for the power hungry elitist who've perpetrated this horrible transition backward, used their superior intellect, honed in the halls of ivy league institutions to mercilessly feed their insatiable need for more. Bottom line: The suckers never had a chance.
