Issues Under Fire: Is the Obama Administration Running Interference for the CIA

Can Barack Obama Morally Block the Release of CIA's Torture Report?

While GOP operatives are actively trying to politicize the CIA's Torture Report, White House officials may be running interference for the embattled agency as well. One of many nagging questions remaining, is why. We've got a mystery and it needs to be solved.

Sunday, talking heads from both political Parties seemed hesitant at best to put forth much of a push for "complete transparency". The American people and the world at large deserve to have the truth, the whole truth and nothing buy the truth.

Unfortunately,  U.S. Representative for Michigan's 8th congressional district and Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence  Mike J. Rogers was actually trying to sweep the issue under the rug entirely as he continued to make the point that the country should be focused other things. " This is a debate we’ve had. It’s gone. It’s a part of our history that we’re probably going to talk about for years but we need to move forward. They need to focus on the challenges that face the United States today.

Obama Administration Runs Interference for the CIA

What Chairman Rogers and the White House don't fully understand, is the only way to move forward is to reconcile once and for all, the United States is currently being viewed as harborers of war criminals by the international community. The failure on the part of the administration to openly report its "complete findings" and answer all allegations publicly, will only substantiate accusations of blatant hypocrisy and serve as a rallying  cry for adversaries and extremist.

Stories like this should disturb every American; Democrat, Republican, Independent or otherwise. Whenever there is an issue involving the CIA the NSA or anything related to Israel, there is an eerie convergence, an unspoken agreement or quiet compromise to work in unison.  Whenever the White House and Congress is on the same page, generally it's at the expense of the American people.

At some point the question has to be asked; Does Barack Obama have the legal luxury of ignoring potential war crimes of his predecessor? If he has documentation that points to human rights abuses and beyond, but does nothing to bring those responsible to justice, is he withholding evidence? Is he covering up? Is he now a coconspirator? Is he just as guilty?

To think Barack Obama would jeopardize his legacy, while further eroding the nation's reputation for being the standard bearer of human rights is mind-boggling. Why the Obama administration would literally shield the likes of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld  among  others who've never had any qualms about undermining every effort of his administration is another major mystery.

Understandably, the nation was in shambles when Barack Obama took office in 2009. With the country fighting two wars and the global economy tanking, one could argue the President had bigger fish to fry. To start hauling CIA officials before Congressional committees at the height of Wall Street's collapse might have been seen as missed placed priorities, but now that we know what we know, there's no way the nation is going to ignore what we know!
