Issues Under Fire: The Personal Day
It should be no secret, Fridays are sacred around here. Friday is special to many, as it signifies freedom from responsibility to anyone or anything but self. Actually, one can pick any day of the week as their Personal Day. It depends solely on how one structure's one's life.
Most Americans like a Friday or a Monday, because it extents the weekend. While three day weekends are cool, others feel Wednesday aka Hump Day is the best way to breakup the week. Some people just can't wait until the end of the week to get away from the lives' they've created for themselves.
Still, others like to keep their options open by having a floating Personal Day. The floating Personal Day is a day reserved for free time no matter what day of the week it is. Some people never know when they're going to get fed up with the daily grind.

The idea is to have a regular Personal Day once per week. The Personal Day is a personal reward for all the personal sacrifices you make just to be a part of society. The Personal Day is your time to be apart from society. Be advised, this should not to be construed as anti social behavior, as to the contrary, you are likely to be far more social during the other six days.
The Personal Day is not a day for family, chores or even worship. The Personal Day is personal. If you like reading, writing , walking or running in the park, riding your bike or playing tennis, thats what you should do. If you like movies, see whatever you want to see whenever you want to see it.
If you like tinkering in the garage or drinking and getting high (Colorado & Washington States Only) then thats what you should. If doing absolutely nothing is how you want to spend that 24 hours, that's exactly how you should spend that time. It's as simple as that. No guilt! No shame! This is simply the essence of work life balance that fosters mental health.
You might have to work on getting the people in your life to accept your attention to self. However, over time they'll eventually understand your Personal Day not just something you take willy nilly, but a major part of who you are. Try it, there's a ton of research that'll prove you'll be a much happier person if you do. So stop killing yourselves, your world ain't worth it. Enjoy your weekend and we'll C-Ya Monday
BTW, just below is a great episode of Box 13 starring Alan Ladd as Dan Holiday former newspaperman turned adventurer. Enjoy, share and we'll C-Ya Monday
