Issues Under Fire: Conditions Ripen for another Intifada

While Israel tries to cut deals with the Kurds in northern Iraq and cozy up to Sunni moderates anywhere to confront mutual threats, its savage response to the deaths of  three kidnapped and eventually killed Israeli teens could derail those efforts. As Videos circulate on the internet showing the sixteen year old cousin of a Palestinian teen burned alive, himself beaten to a bloody pulp by Israeli police, one has to ask, could this incident be the flashpoint that ignites an intifada.

Watching the vicious ass-kicking of a U.S. born kid from Tampa Florida took, while handcuffed and defenseless was reminiscent of the clubbing Rodney King took at the hands of Los Angeles police. Somehow, there is just a visceral reaction in the gut of most reasonable people when they witness unrestrained acts of violence against the defenseless.

Passions run deep and hot when undeniable evidence of police brutality is exposed. In a tinderbox like the Middle East, where hate, anger, mistrust, revenge and a general disregard for human life rules the region, any act of violence, could be the catalyst for the next catastrophe.

Unfortunately, this could be the worst time in Israel's history to trigger another wide scale military conflict with the Palestinians. Regional moderates may think twice about working with Israel while fighting the regionn's newly established caliphate. The last thing the Saudis or Kurds needs now, is to been seen in the eyes of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as collaborating with the ultimate non-believers.

Although the Israeli government is reporting, suspects in the brutal beating and torching death of Mohammed Abu Khdier have been apprehended and his battered and bludgeoned cousin Tariq Abu Khier, has been released from Israeli authorities and placed on house arrest, air strikes over Gaza continue with regularity. Since its being reported that Hamas is responding to Israel's clampdown through relentless raids and military operations by firing rockets into southern Israel, it looks as though it won't be long before its game on again.

Bottom line: With the new Islamic State leader touting his credentials and giving his worldwide army of jihadist their marching orders, Israel may find itself isolated and confronting intifada 10.0.
