Now that we've entered day 16 of the bloodiest fighting in the so-called "Holy Land" in years, we're wondering if anybody stopped to ask if God could be watching this unholy war. Think about that carefully. What if God was actually paying attention this time? What if God decided to take a good hard look at what was going on in the holiest place on earth? To those who profess to believe in God, we ask, what if God knew everything Israel did in Gaza this summer?
One has to wonder, if those responsible for the blockade and siege of Gaza would be making different decisions if they knew God was hanging around and taking notes. One has to wonder, if IDF knew that God had an eye on them, would they keep doing what what they've been ordered to do. If Israeli soldiers knew God could see them preparing to pull the trigger on a child or drop a bomb on a family home, would they still kill that kid or obliterate that family's only place on earth to live?
If one is so moved as to wonder about all that, one is probably wondering, what is God thinking of those who've become aware of what's happening in Gaza, yet turn a blind eye to the obvious humanitarian crises. Considering undeniable, documented evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza are circling the globe at the speed of light, it won't be long before the entire world understands the tragedy in Gaza. What then? Can we ever be forgiven for remaining silent?
On the other hand, perhaps God enjoys seeing innocent men women and children slaughtered daily. Perhaps God gets off on unrestrained death and destruction. Perhaps God is some kind of sadistic voyeur who loves witnessing misery and suffering. Lets face it, God's been known to watch a lot of sh*t go down, without lifting finger to mitigate the collateral damage. Perhaps thats what Israel is counting on. Perhaps the Israelis pray to this kind of God.
Bottom line: Abandoned by the world, 1.8 million Palestinians in Gaza can only hope Israel's blockade can not keep their prayers from the Palestinian God's ears. For if even one child's cry for help is slips through and gets answered, there will be hell to pay in the holy land.
