Issues Under Fire: The Hottest Wars of 2014 to Follow

For those looking for something different to do this summer, they might want to consider following one of the many conflicts raging around the world. Infinitely more real than reality TV, far more exciting than any blockbuster movie or best selling novel, a good bloody war is something that can capture one's imagination like nothing else.

From drama and suspense to death and destruction to tragedy and heartbreak to heroes and villains, a well covered war will meet all one's needs for an exciting summer of Hell on earth. Thanks to 21st century technology, one can tune into any number of bloody conflicts playing out across the globe. The trick is, finding a war to follow that's going to keep you engaged for awhile.

This year's bloody blockbusters includes Syria vs. Islamist maniacs and rebel forces, Iraq vs. Islamist maniacs and Sunni rebels, Ukraine vs. Russian maniacs and rebel forces and of course Israel vs. the Palestinians and Gaza's rebel forces. Obviously, there are lots more violent conflicts to follow, but we're only recommending the big budget battles with high casualty potential.

When selecting a war to follow, one should consider what type of fights one enjoys watching. Some like evenly matched opponents, while others like to see a little guy take it to a bully every once in awhile. Since Ukraine has the backing of the West and the Pro-Russian rebels have Russia as a military counterbalance, that outcome is even money.

Even though the blood flows freely and the body count is off the hook in Syria and Iraq, both of those countries have external support from either Russia or Iran respectively to back their play. On the other side of that bloody ledger, is the the Islamist maniacs, but they need assistance from no one considering they've proven to be one of the most vicious killing machines on the planet. And besides, its almost impossible to tell the bad guys from the bad guys in those conflicts.

Therefore, we've chosen the Israelis vs. the Palestinian conflict to focus on this year. From our perspective, its the only David and Goliath inspired clash playing on the world's killing screen at the moment. None of the other conflicts have a genuine underdog or sympathetic protagonist to root for. The Palestinians are blockaded, under siege, undermanned and outgunned. The Palestinians have no U.S. Cavalry coming to their rescue.

Bottom line: Its because the Palestinians have been abandoned by the entire world at a time when they're facing a foe so savagely sadistic, their plight simply generated a morbid curiosity that held our attention. Thanks to the Israelis, the world is being treated to a show of man's inhumanity to man, not seen in decades.
