Issues Under FIre: ISIS Goes Public, But Israel Goes to Gaza
What should have been an exciting podcast and post of the "League of the Righteous" vs. ISIS in Iraq today, has been overshadowed by reports of the Israelis prepping for a ground invasion of Gaza. Fast moving violent events pushing passions far beyond reason have finally brought the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to another boiling point.
As promising a story as Iranian trained Shiite militias stepping up for the Iraqi military to go head to head against ISIS, Israel, now driven by the ultra hard right has stolen the spotlight. With Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman essentially calling Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a punk for not being tough enough, and dissolving his political allegiance with the Likud Party in protest, the beleaguered Prime Minister was left looking lame at a really bad time.
Weakened politically and wondering what the hell to do, Netanyahu has been forced to rely on his default position; blame Hamas, attack Hamas, check results and repeat when necessary. During a time when his constituents are calling for blood and revenge, its almost impossible to slow the rush to all out war. Calling up reserves and positioning troops along the border, while air strikes pepper Gaza in what's been dubbed "Operation Protective Edge", the stage has been set for an unrestrained and unrestricted bloodletting.
Since the U.S. has virtually no influence over Israel and refuses to even talk with Hamas, there is literally no entity on earth that can broker a cessation of the escalating violence. Considering an incursion into Gaza has the hidden potential to trigger a global jihad, sparking acts of terror well beyond the disappearing borders of the Middle East, this is a story to watch very carefully.
Bottom line: One can only hope the world's best thinkers are paying as close attention to this festering saga as they should be, because the world is counting on them to have a viable response when predicted events demand one.
