Issues Under Fire: The Value of Your Time

Issues Under Fire: The Value of Your Time

To the wise, time is the most important commodity a person can possess. Its so important, its a mystery why people don't cherish and respect it more. Considering the average person has no idea how much time they actually have in life, one would think they'd be careful not to waste it.

Like any other commodity, you can trade sell and barter time. In most cases, its what people do when working for a living. Depending upon how much you can get an employer to compensate you for your time, that will establish the value of your time. (Well, at least in the mind of that particular employer.) If you find yourself working for modest wages, you've likely sold your time too cheaply. You should take some time to think about that!

The wise, place a personalized value on their time. While that value may not always line up with those seeking it your time, that personalized value remains a consideration in every decision made about how that time is utilized. Once you've established a personalized value for your time, that value must be protected. Remember, its all you've got. You should take some time to think about that!

You'd also be wise to remember, there are time bandits in the world that'll carelessly consume your time if you let them. Five minutes here and fifteen minutes there begins to add up over time. Those late for appointments and the no show types are horrible time wasters and should be avoided at all cost when identified. The only thing worse than someone who don't respect your time, is someone who don't understand the value of time. You should take some time to think about that!

Friends and relatives are notorious culprits in consuming one's time. When someone ask you to volunteer some of your time for any reason at all, its should be clear, you are being asked to give that valuable time away for nothing. Remember, time is fleeting and irreplaceable. If allowed to be frittered away, that time can never be retrieved. Once again, since you don't know how much time you have in life, you really don't know if you can afford to be so generous with it.

Bottom line: If indeed, fate would have you being hit and dragged to your death by a garbage truck next week, you'd probably wouldn't be wasting your valuable time showing up for work this Friday. You should take some time to think about that!  C-ya Monday! Maybe!

BTW, just below is another episode of Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe entitled The Unfair Lady. As the story goes, a lush with a luger, a fresh corpse in the closet and a hot woman to cold to hold brings Marlowe face to face with a thieving murderer.

Enjoy and share.
