Issues Under Fire: With US Support, Assault on Gaza Rages On

Day 17 of the Assault on Gaza: Facing worldwide condemnation for war crimes and crimes against humanity, the United States refuse to acknowledge any wrongdoing in the way Israel is prosecuting its assault on Gaza.

Residential neighbors, schools, mosques, hospitals and UN shelters have all been blasted, killing hundreds and horribly wounding thousands. Images, videos and first hand accounts of the indiscriminate violence in Gaza can now be found and verified by anyone who cares enough to look, yet the United States remain committed it its ally.

On day 15 of Israel's assault on Gaza, the United Nations Human Rights Council voted to authorize a commission of inquiry into alleged war crimes in Gaza. The United States was the sole "no" vote. On day 15 of Israel's assault on Gaza the death toll stood at more than 650. On day 17, the death toll has breached 800 and counting. The vast majority of the dead and wounded to date, are women and children. Still, the mantra has not changed; "Israel has the right to defend itself".

For those in the thinking class however, its time to start asking the uncomfortable questions. If the United States agrees wholeheartedly with what Israel is doing in Gaza, can one presume thats how the United States prosecutes its wars? Was the United States killing indiscriminately in Iraq, Afghanistan and anywhere else U.S. Black Ops and drone technologies were unleashed?

Considering, the United States is no stranger to targeted killings and assignations without benefit of due process and has an appallingly high rate of collateral damage as well, is this a birds of a feather, flock together situation? It don't take a genious to conclude said actions has contributed to the reason the United States is so thoroughly hated throughout the Arab world?

Bottom line: If the international community is correct in its assessment of Israel's actions in Gaza, one has to ask, if the United States can be held accountable for providing aid, support and political cover to carry out these crimes against humanity. People are now asking, how high must the death toll rise before the United States realizes its become a coconspirator in genocide.
