Issues Under Fire: As Palestinians Gain World Support, Israel’s Collapses

Day 42 of the Assault on Gaza: As the expiration of the latest ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian resistance draws near, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Natanyahu still enjoys widespread support for “Operation Protective Edge” among his citizens. Chanting finish the job at Israeli rallies and demonstrations , huge segments of the Israeli population want the fighting to resume ASAP in order to crush the resistance once and for all.

With a superior military, a superb missile defense system and riding a wave of anger, frustration and nationalism, on the surface, one would think Israel was in total control of the situation as well as its destiny. One would think the Palestinians would be down and out by now. One would think the Palestinians had finally played their last card and it would be only a matter of time before the resistance would be forced to submit. One would think!

However, although Israel has also infiltrated the EU’s Parliament, purchased the U.S. Congress and manages the mainstream media’s narrative, it has not been able to quiet a global response to the atrocities being committed actions against the Palestinians. Social media has exposed the Israeli occupation for what it is; a slow and deliberate genocide in the Gaza Strip, a system of apartheid in the West Bank, “Jim Crow Law” for Arab Israelis and a shameless land grab by Right wing extremist. Generating protest, demonstrations and calls for war crimes accountability is only the beginning of the world’s reaction.

People from all backgrounds all over the planet are uniting to fight back and show their solidarity with the Palestinian people. This weekend, hundreds (perhaps thousands) stopped an Israeli vessel from docking at a U.S. port to deliver its cargo. Chanting “Block the Boat”, activists marched from an Oakland transit station to the port of Oakland to form a line to block workers from unloading the ship. Apparently the ship’s captain was advised of what he’d be facing and decided not to approach the port. That ship, is currently sitting 100 miles off the coast of California.

In Hodge Hill Birmingham, a district of the UK this weekend, Gaza protestors went berserk in a Tesco store hurling produce and scuffling with police as they demanded the market stop selling Israeli products. An estimated 100 protestors gathered outside the market peacefully to protest the offering of Israeli products, but things turned violent when a few individuals entered the store and started wreaking the joint. It took twenty police officers to restore order. Things like this is happening everywhere.

Bottom line: By every measure, people are pissed by what they see happing in Gaza and the West Bank and they want it to stop now. They also want their governments to stop enabling Israel to continue its genocidal and racist policies and they’re demanding Israel to be heavily sanctioned until it complies with international laws and norms. Any hopes by the Israelis that this story will eventually die down or become drowned out by other distractions have been dashed and dashed for good. What happens in the Occupied Territories, will no longer stay in the Occupied Territories.
