Issues Under Fire: Bombs Remain Silent Over Gaza, Obama Takes A Breather
Day 37 of the Assault on Gaza: In light of this latest ceasefire holding as steadily as it has thus far, it might be a good time to review Barack Obama's role, contributions and results to date. While conducting said review, some rather disturbing revelations surfaced, that blatantly indicate President Obama may have already been put out to pasture. Showing no push, pull, power or punch, few international players appear to be paying this president much respect or even attention anymore.
When Benjamin Netanyahu told the Obama administration to mind its business and just pick up the tab for "Operation Protective Edge", that's essentially what the administration did. President Obama promptly forked over $225 million in funding for the Iron Dome missile defense system, swung open the doors to U.S. arms stockpiles for Israel to pick and choose whatever they needed and Secretary Kerry was reassigned to task in India, Australia and Iraq. And suddenly, not another peep from the administration regarding talks between the Palestinians and Israel.
With ISIS providing a convenient cover for the time being, even in Iraq, the President is being made to look like a chump. In an effort to recast a diminishing image by heroically rescuing tens of thousands of helpless Christians trapped on a mountain, the President finds himself facing another defiant leader (Nouri al-Maliki) telling him, hell no he won't go. It almost seems any time the president demands anybody to do anything he's met with the same response; F-U! If you look at Russia, Syria, Iran, China and especially Israel, you'll see a pattern developing that can't be ignored.
Even on the domestic front, President Obama is being disrespected and challenged. One would expect the GOP to give the administration hell, but the backstabbing rancor is now coming from his own Party. Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State and a former first lady with serious designs on the White House, did her level best to second guest the president's foreign policy stating her approach would have been far more hands on, in touch, and fully engaged. She would have armed the Syrian Rebels.
According to Hillary Clinton, had the President taken her advice two years ago, the world would not have ISIS to contend with today. While that could not be further from the truth, Clinton clearly felt the president has been sufficiently weakened to get away with attacking him. Add the fact that many Democrats in sensitive races are afraid to even be heard uttering his name, perhaps Barack Obama got the message: Dude You Are So Lame!
Bottom line: Perhaps, the president has slipped into lame duck status. Perhaps the president has decided to mail it in. Perhaps the president has realized his days as an effective influential player have come to an end. Perhaps Barack Obama is ready to spend time with his family, give speeches for exorbitant fees and relax writing his memoirs. Perhaps President Obama should have just skipped the second term altogether!
