Issues Under Fire: Cairo Brokered Truce Ends Assault on Gaza

Issues Under FireCairo Brokered Truce Ends Assault on Gaza
After 50 horrific days of withstanding a brutal onslaught of air strikes, tank shelling and a ground evasion, the Palestinian resistance, seems to have fought Israel to a virtual draw. As difficult for that is to believe, the Palestinians actually held their own. Considering Israel can boast of being the most powerful military in the Middle East and ranked fourth in the world in lethality, one would have to give any tie-breaking vote to the resistance.
At first glance, one would think the only chance the resistance had to over come the insane odds, was to simply drown the IDF in buckets of Palestinian blood. Launching rockets loaded more with symbolism than explosive payloads appeared suicidal, not a viable defense strategy. But upon closer review of events, the Palestinian's inaccurate and homemade munitions may have did the trick.
With Israel vowing to keep killing as long as the resistance kept firing rockets, the Israelis found themselves losing the public relations war. As the death and destruction in Gaza continued to be witnessed by the entire world and Israel being hard-pressed to show any suffering whatsoever, those pathetic rockets made the IDF look like sadistic bullies. The Palestinian resistance kept firing, just to keep Israel shelling. The Palestinians provoked the provocateurs and the provocateurs fell into the trap.
The daily pictures, videos and firsthand accounts of the unrestrained violence being perpetrated against the Palestinians could not be rebuffed or explained away with the narrative of "quiet will be met with quiet". That narrative was received by the objective observer as, "If you only stop screaming, we'll stop beating you". The Palestinians used Israel's penchant and proclivity for aggression against them. It was the only way to attract and hold the world's attention long enough to expose Israel's crimes against humanity. It was the only way to educate the world about the blockade, the siege and the "Occupation". There was no other way!
Understandably, some would ask, with more than 2100 dead, thousands wounded and hundreds of thousands left homeless and or otherwise displaced, how could anybody consider the Palestinians the victors? The answer is simpler than you'd think. The Palestinian's cause has gone global. The Israeli narrative is dead. The Palestinians have gained international respect. The Israelis have drawn international condemnation.
The Palestinian's political construct is now unified and strengthening. The Israelis' body politic is in disarray and in denial. The Palestinians are looking forward to their day in the ICC. The ICC is Israel's worst nightmare. The Palestinians have taken their first steps on the road to freedom. Israel's road to the future looks fraught with peril at best.
Bottom line: While it may have looked like all was lost and things could get no worse, the Palestinians survived another Israeli horror story and have shared their tale with the world. With the world watching in horror in real time with them, finally the truth was able to be revealed. One can only hope there won't be another sequel anytime soon. Until the end of the "Occupation", the world now says, "long live the Palestinian resistance".
