Issues Under Fire: Gaza Bleeds in the Shadow of other Wars
Day 45 of the Assault on Gaza: Since the world's attention has been split between its preoccupation with Gaza and its fixation over monstrous acts of ISIS in Iraq and Syria, Israel has a rare opportunity to bleed Gaza dry in the shadow of another war. While the Obama administration makes its dramatically heroic and humanitarian reentry into Iraq to slay ISIS' marauding maniacs, Israel has quickly killed an additional 21 Palestinians and injured untold more. Unfortunately, they didn't necessarily kill the ones they intended to.
Air strikes carried out overnight sought the violent demise of Hamas' resistance leader Muhammad Deif, but with pinpoint targeting never being an Israeli preference, the assassination attempt led to the death of his wife and eight month old son. Whether Deif was even in the home when it was struck at least five times by f-16 flybys at 3:00 am. is unknown. However, what is known, is that nine members of another family living on an upper floor were killed. Most would bet this high value target didn't get a knock on the roof or a pre-bombing warning call!
Considering the nearly 50 year old Deif has been living on the down-low for decades, while occupying a prominent space on Israel's most wanted list, he was a target to be terminated with extreme prejudice. Being that this figure has eluded capture and survived many Israeli efforts to kill him, he's become somewhat of a folk hero and inspiration to others. A guy like this can't be allowed to be a role model for youngsters. If Israel could have eliminated Deif as a threat, they'd be celebrating big time in Tel Aviv.
Freed (for the time being) to bomb until his heart's content, Benjamin Netanyahu ordered as many air strikes as possible to cripple the Palestinian resistance, before Israel is forced into another cease-fire. If only for humanitarian reasons, there will certainly be international calls for a cessation of violence before to much longer. If the Israelis have any chance of achieving its goals at all, they can't dilly dally. They must kill as many Palestinians as quickly and efficiently they as possible. You never know, they might actually get some of the resistance fighters this time.
Bottom line: Sadly, this window of opportunity for killing won't remain open forever. Realizing time is of the essence, Israel must continue to conduct "Operation Protective Edge" with a sense of urgency. They have to kill crush and destroy as much and as many before Palestinian blood begins splashing across the world's media again. After all, Israel can't keep Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch at bay indefinitely. Podcast Below!
