Issues Under Fire: Israel Competing With ISIS As World's Most Despised
Day 35 of the Assault on Gaza and Phase 2 of the Hostilities. Taking advantage of Ceasefire No. 10, it might be enlightening to assess Israel's public relations assault on Gaza. Despite a Goliath sized effort to demonize the Palestinian resistance, Israel is losing the messaging war miserably. Doing everything from shuttling U.S. Congressional representatives to and from Tel Aviv for their marching orders and talking points to manipulating U.S. media coverage, Israel can't seem to make their charges stick.
While governments appear reticent to accept the Palestinian's right to resist and defend themselves against aggression, the people of the world are speaking out loudly, clearly and daily. Hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets to show support and solidarity for the so called terrorist organization. On Aug. 9th, in London alone, 150,000 marched in the biggest demonstration in the UK for Gaza. Stop the War Coalition, an international solidarity movement also launched an online rallying call, in Arabic, English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hebrew, Spanish and Turkish.
The protestor are angry and calling for Israel to be held accountable for war crimes. The despicable notion that Israel had no other option but to fire upon women and children in order to eliminate a legitimate or perceived threat is not a narrative many in the world will accept. Not even for a minute. People watching this conflict have put themselves in the shoes of a Palestinian and can see themselves responding the same way. They too, would fight to the death if need be for their freedom and their basic human rights.
People witnessing Israeli war crimes in Gaza have seen killing like this before. ISIS, the Islamic maniacs marauding through Syria and Iraq, threatening thousands with certain death has much in common with the Israelis. ISIS demands religious allegiance and all the land they want for their state or death. Israel demands complete compliance, submission and all the land they want for their state or death. Either way, one's life is hardly worth living if one finds one's self within the sphere of influence of Israel or ISIS.
Bottom line: From all of Europe to North and South America and beyond, international citizens, having very little respect for government, has formulated their own opinions. Based on what they've seen and heard with their own eyes and ears, they've come to their own conclusions and they've rendered a verdict. Israel is now the most despised entity on earth. Unfortunately, spin just don't work the way it used to.
