Issues Under Fire: Palestinians to Israel: Our Human Rights Are Not Negotiable
Day 3 of the Aftermath and Phase 2 of the Hostilities. For those listening carefully to the voices of Palestinians in Gaza during the last few weeks, they would have heard an overwhelming sentiment to continue the struggle. Despite the shelling, the loss of life and total devastation of all they had, come hell or high water, these people are determined to fight to the very end. No one should be surprised that Hamas refused to stop resisting until their core demands were met. That's what they said, that's what they meant!
To think Palestinians went to Cairo to settle for another backloaded deal, willing to compromise their bottom line or could be convinced to accept their slow and agonizing death by humiliation, was a misread of human nature. Only an arrogant militaristic colonialists like Israel could be so blind to the pain they've caused, the lives they've ruined and the futures they've placed in doubt. Only the thuggishly imperious would so grossly underestimate the depth of another's will to be free of its grip. Only a fool would think the Palestinians could be conned into returning to the status quo ante.
Considering Israel's blockade of Gaza is and always has been a violation of international law and according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) violates the Geneva Conventions, Israel will find few supporters going forward. After an independent panel of hunan rights experts declared Israel's blockade Gaza subjected Gazans to collective punishment and a "flagrant contravention of international human right and humanitarian law, Palestinians now have every right to demand the unconditional dismantling of said blockade.
The Palestinian's message has been clear, concise and consistent. They will fight and die for the right to live like other people in the civilized world. They will fight and die for the right to have their own country. They will fight and die the right to determine their own destiny. They will fight and die for the right to defend those rights. Palestinians are saying to Israel for the last time, "Our Human Rights Are Not Negotiable". To live in a world that won't defend that fundamental principle is to live in a world without hope.
Bottom line: If the Palestinians are true to their word and stick to their guns, we all may be forced to witness another bloodbath to rival that of Syria. Poised to pounce at the slightest hint of rebellion, Israel's genocidal nature could unleashed a hell that'll make round one of this latest bloodletting look like a mere pinprick.
