Issues Under Fire: Flouting International Law, Obama Launch Air Strikes in Syria
Taking the bait, Barack Obama launched air strikes within Syria after a series of beheadings, massacres and verbal insults directed at Western powers and the United States specifically. Without clear legal authority, a U.S. led coalition of regional partners made good on threats against ISIS/ISIL, targeting the militants to degrade its capabilities and begin an end to its reign of terror. Well, at least that's the cover story.
Apparently, the Islamic State was able to get the U.S. President to do what his administration has pledged not to do: Stupid Sh*t! Not only has the U.S. violated international law by attacking military targets within the confines of another sovereign nation without consent, but the Obama administration has incentivized wannabe jihadist around the world to expand the conflict. For a nation claiming to understand there is no military solution to the conflicts in Iraq and Syria, the administration is employing no other options.
The White House tried to cover its ass by leaking the names of Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as participating partners, but the extent to which each so-called partner was involved remains murky at best. The last thing the administration needs, is to appear to be going after ISIS/ISIL alone. When the inevitable blowback begins, the administration wants to defuse ISIS/ISIL's focus. Better they're angry at the world than just us.
Bottom line: U.S. air strikes inside Syria was a flagrant disregard for international law and an act of arrogant aggression. It will be met by exceedingly stiff opposition and a complete loss of containment in the region. These air strikes will only spread the virus of evil throughout the world.
The violence driven narrative of Islamic extremist never could be fought successfully with bombs and bullets. It takes brains to defeat a mindset. Unfortunately brains are in short supply in Washington D.C. these days. Because of the United States' shortsighted actions, Americans as well as Europeans could be in a lot of trouble and soon too.
