Issues Under Fire: U.S. Plays Ringleader in Middle East Circus of Violence
Well, its official. The United States is going to war again. This time, the U.S. will be engaged militarily in Syria and Iraq at the same time. Since events on the ground and in the air are now moving at a speed fast enough to create false realties, its critical to document the "minor" details that are sure to be overlooked by an over indulgent domestic media and eagerly sidestepped by an administration spoiling for a fight.
Minor Detail 1: Inserting the U.S. into a multi level, multi dimensional, multi national, multi year, multi sectarian civil war, without clearly establishing any specific threat ISIS/ISIL or Syria posses to the United States may not be constitutional. But on the other hand, when has constitutional considerations ever prevented the United States from going to war?
Minor Detail 2: Investing 500 million U.S. dollars to train a bunch of "proven losers" to provide ground support for an expensive and risky air campaign may not be prudent. Considering the United States is flat broke, where that money is going to come from should have been explained up front. Since contemplate raising taxes or cutting cost seems out of the question during an election cycle, this little fiscal issues will be tabled for now.
Minor Detail 3: Conducting widespread military operations within the borders of another nation without coordination, cooperation or even permission may not be legal. But, if one considers how the Obama administration launched drone strikes in Pakistan without coordination, cooperation, let alone permission as well as conducting global counter-terrorist operations with impunity, why should a little thing like respecting a nation's sovereignty hamper preemptive measures now?
Minor Detail 4: Taking the lead in a regional fight where the regional players were instrumental in the emergence and support of ISIS/ISIL may not be sensible. Still, perhaps the Obama administration can convince a circular firing squad to point their weapons in one direction. The only problem the administrations has to solve, is making sure those weapons aren't eventually pointed at U.S. forces.
Minor Detail 5: To think the Russians and Iranians will sit on their hands, allowing the West to have free rein in further destabilizing a region already under international duress may not be rational. Russia's Vladimir Putin and Iran's Supreme Leader, both seething over unwarranted and possibly illegal economic sanctions instigated against their countries by the Obama administration, could provide just enough military support to Bashar al-Assad to get a really ugly proxy fight started between Moscow, Iran and the West.
Bottom line: If Barack Obama is hellbent on playing the ringleader in this Middle East circus of violence, its crucial he replace the idiots within his national security and foreign policy advisory teams. Otherwise, when all is said and done, this President of the United States will look as much like a clown as the last one did. Podcast Below!
