Issues Under Fire: U.S. Sends Military to Confront Ebola or World War Z
In what could be shaping up to be a great Halloween tale, the Ebola crises has captivated the world's imagination. Now that someone has contracted the virus outside the outbreak zone of West Africa, nerves are beginning to rattle, fear is taking hold and panic is on the rise.
The very thought of President Obama answering this Ebola challenge with more military than medical personnel should spark one's imagination. Considering Ebola can't be bombed or shot, these military resources will likely be used for security, crowd control and containment. Wouldn't it be wild if this epidemic evolved into Brad Pitt's World War Z.
The visuals of containment camps filling up with sick, frightened and angry people demanding their release is the stuff Hollywood has been dreaming up for decades. Weak, frail and infected, the ostracized will linger helplessly as a cure is sought. Unfortunately, any current treatments are scarce, expensive and barely 50% effective.
What if mobs and gangs begin to form amongst the not so sick to protest their delayed and or ineffective treatment? What if the delivery of food, water and medical care becomes a problem when the outbreak can no long be controlled? What if medical and support personnel become infected? What if this is only the beginning? Cable news networks will have a feast off this tragedy.
How long will it be before the military receives its orders to shoot to kill anybody attempting to escape the containment camps? How long will it be before military personnel become infected? How long will it be before governments are forced to close borders to those seeking help and or treatment. How long will it be before governments decide its time to ban travel to and from infection zones?
Bottom line: How long will it be before the world goes crazy? Podcast Below!
