Issues Under Fire: But the American Voter is Stupid! Lets face it, sometimes the truth hurts. When Jonathan Gruber made his ill fated remarks concerning the intellect, or lack thereof of the American voter, GOP politicos went off. The Democrats responded by immediately distancing themselves from the Harvard educated heath economist, while trying to minimize his value and input to President Obama's signature achievement, the Affordable Care Act.
While many would agree Mr. Gruber's comments were insulting and insensitive, they were also very true. The American voter is stupid. If stupidity was not the primary driving force behind the American political process, there would be no American voters at all. No matter how many times the American voter is lied to by corrupt politicos, they keep coming back for more. Considering the stakes involved, that's pretty stupid.
Unfortunately, the well deserved stupidity label extends far beyond the American voter. The average American can be honestly described as stupid or at the very least, willfully ignorant. (People who know they're dumb, but won't do anything about it.)
One need only look at where Americans rank educationally in international performance standings to see a steady decline in intellectual output. Over the last three decades, the United States has dummied down to a point where the country is producing more stupid people than ever before.
Just look around you and you'll see stupid people saying stupid things, doing stupid stuff, making stupid decisions and as a result living stupid lives. In fact, you'd have to be stupid not to notice all the stupid people around you. There are stupid people in every profession and walk of life you can possibly imagine.
There are stupid doctors, lawyers, teachers, cops, TSA agents, DMV employees, military personnel, politicians and most media professionals. Hell, if you really want to be honest, America even elected a stupid president. You must admit, electing George W. Bush twice was an obvious act of stupidity.
Even the United States Supreme Court has reason to be questioned, after reviewing some of its most recent decisions. Many could successfully argue, Citizens United was the epitome of stupidity. If fact, it would have to stupidity, since the twelve ancient ones are old enough to have known better.
To expect the American people, being a product of lowered educational standards, performance and hence diminished intellectual capacity to be an astute and informed electorate is beyond stupid. To deny the indisputable truth of rampant stupidity taking root in the very foundation of the nation, will only exacerbate the situation. The only way to begin combating thirty years of intellectual neglect, is to first admit the problem exist. Regrettably, admitting the problem exist will never happen.
Bottom line: Despite the all the ballyhoo over the "Stupid American Voter" remark, the ugly truth is, stupid Americans are actually nurtured and valued by those who now control America. The last thing any power structure wants, is smart, analytically thinking constituents carefully examining the issues.
Stupid people are easier to manage, manipulate mislead and misinform. Consequently, you never have to tell stupid people the truth, when you can keep them asking all the wrong questions. Governments love stupid people. Podcast Below!
