Issues Under Fire: The Cromnibus Conspiracy

Keep to the Script and Stop Ad-libbing

Issues Under Fire:  The Cromnibus Conspiracy
Its a damn shame, Jonathan Gruber, architect of Obama-Care, took so much heat for calling the American voter stupid, because there is more than sufficient evidence to support his view. After watching Congress and the administration intentionally delay reaching a pro Wall Street, campaign funding friendly, defense contractor pleasing budget until the witching hour of a government shutdown, many are convinced the American people got hosed again. To think otherwise, is just stupid.
As much as those on the Left and the Right want to believe the fights on Capitol Hill are real, the thinking class have long ago concluded, Congressional battles are as authentic as a WWE wrestling match. Could it be, like a fake WWE wrestling contest, the outcome of these budget battles are already predetermined. Could it be, the passionate pleas from the Left in support of the people are scripted? Could it be, that the fiery speeches from the Right in support of the constitution is just role playing? Could it be far more bipartisanship is going on than Americans have been led to believe?
To take this conspiracy theory seriously, you'll have to entertain some uncomfortable possibilities. One would have to envision Barack Obama, Mitch McConnel, John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid all being pals behind the curtain. One would have to consider Congress is no more than a professionally trained ensemble of actors paid to perform in America's political dramas. One would have to accept the possibility that our elected representatives are simply reading from a script.
For those willing to ponder the worse, they might conclude, anything beyond local elections, is no more than national auditions for Washington D.C.'s political reality show. New faces and characters are brought in from time to time to keep the production fresh and engaging, but the story line remains static. Topics, like poverty, racism, sexism, choice vs. life, income inequality, healthcare, education, upward mobility, you name it, are just wedge issues to keep the public at odds with itself. No problem is really meant to be solved, just debated.
Granted, the very idea of Elizabeth Warren and Ted Cruz being paid actors in the greatest show on earth, written, produced and directed by shadowy figures, "We the People" will never know sounds insane. But, one could argue rolling back Dodd Frank provisions to benefit Wall Street after the damage the "Banksters" did to the country and the world economy is crazy too. One could also argue, increasing personal political contributions by a factor of ten in an already massively corrupt campaign funding process is even more ludicrous.
Bottom line: After the Sequestration Conspiracy, we view Cromnibus as simply another bipartisan conspiracy cloaked in political theater. Hence, it would neither be prudent nor wise to put anything above the American political process. Perhaps there is another explanation for the way things are done and undone in Washington D.C., but until we see the methods change, we'll continue to believe Congress and the administration are just a bunch of bad method actors in a long running, well funded theatrical production. Why Americans continue to watch is the only mystery to be solved. Podcast Below!
