Issues Under Fire: Religion for Psychotics
During his three day visit to Turkey, Pope Francis promoted the need for immediate interfaith dialog to address the violence of extremist. While his message was well received by the throngs that flocked to see him, for the masses of Turks who didn't flock to see the Pope, the message was just crazy talk. For the masses of Turkish Muslims, we all know that message was forgotten before the Pope's plane returned to Rome.
Now that violence has reached psychotic levels in the region, it can't be stopped with talk. Psychological intervention and medication is the only solution left untested. Although the Pope means well, his message is just way too little and way too late. Short of showing up with massive doses of thorazine to calm the crazies, his words simply went in one ear and out the other or just bounced off hard heads altogether.
When hate was allowed to take root in the region, the "super charged believers" (religious psychotics) predictably began interpreting their holy books in a manner that allows for the harshest means of revenge. A holy book, any holy book, in the hands of a religious psychotic is dangerous. Once that psychotic is armed, it won't be long before he becomes a threat. If that psychotic happens to have a charismatic personality, he can interest, recruit, indoctrinate and eventually arm others.
Since holy books are widely available, psychotics all over the world can access and interpret them in ways unimaginable to a sane mind. Before long, armies of religious psychotics will roan the globe, determined to save souls by taking lives.
Generally the religious psychotic validates himself by hearing voices, seeing visions or both. Without intervention or medication, the religious psychotic's belief system will grow stronger and deeper. Thoroughly convinced God has given him the authority to act on his behalf, the religious psychotic can grant himself unlimited powers to rule and control others. In many cases, the religious psychotic will find himself confined and or restricted by his holy book and feel compelled to branch out.
With encouragement from codependent followers, simple minds and other misfits, new sects of religious psychotics are detected and diagnosed everyday. In theory, for every religious psychotic, there is the potential for another sect of religious psychotics.
When all these offshoots of the same divinely inspired psychosis eventually collide in the global square, the urge for conflict cannot be suppressed. Unfortunately, even though those who hear voices and see visions presumably possess the weakest minds, they often have the strongest convictions.

Bottom line: Whether its Christianity, Islam, Judaism or any other religious belief system, once misunderstood by a religious fanatic, psychotic behaviors are sure to follow. Any cursory review of history will support this assessment. Podcast Below!
