Issues Under Fire: Snow Days 2015

Issues Under Fire: Snow Days 2015
Since New York is city hunkering down to wait out a mega snow storm with blizzard conditions, we're taking advantage of the situation to goof off a bit. You don't get these opportunities often, so you gotta strike when the story is hot. If you can't find a way to squeeze a free chill day out of two feet of snow with 60 mile an hour winds, you just don't know a good thing when you see it.
Closing the schools, shutting down transit systems, ordering all non-essential vehicles off the roads after 11:00 PM, put the fear of the weather Gods in every city dweller's heart. Mayor De Blasio's cautious approach to preparing the city for the worst has brought the Big Apple to a standstill. New Yorkers should be as happy as those getting the overtime pay to fight the storm.
This is great when you really think about it. The whole city gets a couple of middle of the week freebie days off. Two, maybe three if we're lucky, days of not having to look at a supervisor, avoid an office manager, teach an unruly class of future dropouts, sit in heavy traffic, wait on a cold platform for a late train, serve your least friendly customers, empty a fat patient's bed pan or face an annoying bully in class. Because of this storm, real life is canceled for awhile.
Of course, when the flakes fall no more and the heavy winds diminish to a light breeze, that winter wonderland effect will wear off. Expectations return. The shovel will become your best friend. Black ice will become your worst enemy. Your back will remind your to exercise more. and your lazy neighbor will be remembered in the spring.
Yeah, it'll be back to real life and it'll snap back as quickly as it was suspended. So, if you're fortunate enough to grab a respite from reality, consider it a gift from the heavens above and enjoy every moment it last.
BTW, we've Posted a really cool episode of Rocky Jordan entitled "The Race" just below in lieu of our regularly scheduled edition of Issues Under Fire. Enjoy and share.
