Issues Under Fire: Black-ish America

Issues Under Fire: Black-ish America
If this were any day but Friday, and a spring Friday at that, this writer would've addressed the issue of Black Flight from urban America. The plan was to open a conversation about the African American upper class and what that demographic has been doing to confront and combat the chronic socioeconomic conditions plaguing their less fortunate brothers and sisters.
While the African American upper class may not be strong enough to tackle all what ails Black America, one could still make a strong argument for those who have more, could do a lot more. The concept of moving on up through hard work and playing by the rules, didn't have to mean "moving on out" and never looking back.
Young and hopelessly poor Black urbanites could benefit greatly if they had success stories living within their reach to look up to. If they could witness a smart Black man successfully navigating the minefield of lousy choices many Black youth face everyday, perhaps that smart Black man's path would be followed. Unfortunately, when the smart Black man's path leads him to the top, it also leads him away from home.
When Issues Under Fire returns on Monday, this issue will be given the depth of analysis it deserves. Though a candid assessment of where African American's of means may have fallen short of their moral responsibilities to fellow African Americans living under siege, hopefully we can offer some constructive and creative measures to incentivize reengagement. C-ya Monday.
BTW, as per usual, just below is another episode of Rocky Jordan. This adventure is entitled " The Black Ball" and its a good one. Enjoy and share.
