Issues Under Fire: On Special Assignment Until 6.30.2015 (It's A Black Thing!)
Since undertaking the task of examining the African American experience, one of the most troubling issues that keep rearing its ugly head, is the inability of Black leaders to improve the lives of their constituents. The leadership seems to do well, but their people continue to struggle. In cities and communities like Baltimore Md. where Blacks have control of local government, policing authorities and educational responsibilities, Blacks are actually fairing worse.
We've reviewed some impressive resumes, backgrounds, histories and personal accomplishments of many Blacks in positions of leadership. Unfortunately, those success stories don't seem to be replicating themselves at a rate one would expect. There is a disconnect between the role models and those who need them. Why that is, is a mystery to be solved.
In order to solve that mystery, its necessary to visit these spaces of persistent inequities and start asking the tough questions of those charged with raising the standard of living for the people in those spaces. If Black leaders "made it", how come they can't show their communities how to "make it." By all accounts, Baltimore Md. should be a model for all African America communities, not a warning.
Bottom line: Until further notice, Issues Under Fire will be on special assignment. The plan is to travel to some of America's most desperate communities lead by influential African Americans and demand accountability for a lack of progress and change. Without question, we're going to piss a lot of folks off, but at this point, somebody has to do it.
BTW, as per usual, just below is another cool episode of Rocky Jordan entitled Shakedown for your enjoyment.
