Issues Under Fire: Trump Promises Close Monitoring of American Muslims
Donald Trump has signaled some very disturbing ideas as to how he'd protect the homeland from foreign and domestic threats. Some of his ideas are so disturbing, they had to be examined immediately. By next week, his campaign operatives will have scrubbed his statements from the public record. If elected, Trump stated he wouldn't rule out establishing a database for the purpose of keeping track of Muslims in America. As astounding as that might sound, he was quite serious about the proposal.
When questioned by an NBC reporter in Iowa yesterday about the use of databases for American Muslims, Trump said "there should be lots of systems beyond databases. He said, "we should have a lot of systems." During an interview with a Yahoo reporter concerning the Paris attacks, the question of database for Muslims came up again. When asked, Trump stated " We're going to have to do things that we never did before. And some people are going to get upset it, but I think that now everybody is feeling that security is going to rule". As amazing as this sounds it gets worse.
Donald Trump went on to say, "Certain things will be done that we never thought would happen in this country in terms of information and learning about the enemy. And so we're going to do certain things that frankly were unthinkable a year ago." Given this observer's creative imagination, life for a Muslim and likely a lot more undesirable minorities will be miserable in Trump's America. Living under constant suspicion and surveillance, entire demographics can expect to be given a special form of identification that notes their religious affiliation, as Trump refused to rule that out as well.
It doesn't take much of an imagination to see how this type of thinking could get out of hand. These types of policies have been tried before and the results was a holocaust. Imagine Muslim Americans waking up to a Trump presidency in November 2016 and what they'll be thinking. Can they still attend their mosques to worship without being harassed, questioned and or detained? Will all mosques be watched? Will Muslims be banned from meeting in large groups? Should non Muslims avoid Muslims for fear of being considered in cahoots with the "enemy"?
Should Muslims start selling their homes, closing their businesses, quitting their jobs and pulling their kids out of school so they can move to a place where they won't be persecuted for the color of their skin, the God the pray to or for daring to don the garb of their culture? Should they publicly pledge their allegiance to the United States of America and renounce their current faith in favor of Christianity? Is there anything a Muslim can do to convince the United States they are good, loyal, hardworking, taxpaying Americans? Or, will they be treated like Black people in America, no matter what they do?
Bottom line: While electronic ankle monitors or digital tracking implants weren't mentioned, one could envision that type of technology being employed in a Trump administration's war against terror. Americans might feel safe in Trump world , but you could hardly call this space north of Mexico and south of Canada the United States of America anymore. Donald Trump may be an asshole with clownish hair, but he's also a very dangerous man. Podcast below!
