Guns Guns and More Guns: It's the American Way

While this observer commends President Obama for his tireless efforts to talk sense into the senseless, he should be painfully aware by now he's engaging a yet to fully evolve subspecies of humanity. "The Gun", in the mind of this uniquely American demographic is and always have been a way of life. Given the fact that the United States is the most violent and least civilized of the world's industrialized nations, this country's very nature won't tolerate the slightest limitations on access to firearms.
With real and imagined fears of street crime, government tyranny, terrorist attacks or America's random mass shootings, guns to this subspecies of humanity is essential for self defense. In their minds, one must be armed to the teeth just to go to school, work or out to play. Some wouldn't think of leaving the house without a gun or two. As long as Americans remains in a perpetual state of real or imagined fear, they will never surrender their right to possess as many guns as they want, no matter how lethal.
The President can debate the gun issue until he's white in the face, but he'll have a better chance bringing Jews to Jesus than talking Americans into voluntarily rethinking their reliance on guns. Americans love guns. They worship weaponry. They like the power of guns. They like to play with them. They like to be seen with them. They like the feel of a gun on their hip or in a shoulder holster. They like to show their guns off to other people who like guns.
Unfortunately, deep down most people who live by the gun simply want the power to instill fear in other people. They want the public to know at a glance, they have the means to take a life within their reach and thus they're not to be messed with. They want the world to know if any situation escalates beyond their personal judgement of what's right, wrong, safe or legal, they have the means to intervene. With a gun, anybody can be in charge and in control.
Now just think of what life would be like in the United States if all 318.9 million Americans were armed and walking around with an attitude like that. If the gun lobbyist and their brothers in arms have their way, we're all going to find out one very violent day.
