As predicted, Oregon's armed standoff, aka the Redneck Rebellion ended with shots fired, one dead Billy Bob and seven other ring leades in custody. The one Billy Bob killed as a result of state and federal law enforcement initiating an enforcement action, had publicly stated on numerous occasions that he wouldn't be taken alive. So, he wasn't. Lavoy Finicum, preferring death to jail, he was put down with a bullet and out of his misery. And while the details of his demise remain murky, for all intents and purposes, this event is as dead as Mr. Finicum.
Still, why the federal government took so long to toss these redneck land grabbing interlopers in the hoosegow was not immediately understood by this observer. Considering the Billy Bobs were armed, openly committing crimes, making outlandish demands, defying lawful orders of state and federal authorities, while intimidating local residents, the situation was begging for a tough and quick response. Why many wondered, are these goofy doofies being treated with kid gloves? And then it all became clear.
With Barack Obama in the White House, Jeh Johnson as Secretary of Homeland Security and Loretta Lynch, Attorney General running the show at the Justice Department, the optics of having the three most powerful Black government leaders disarming a band of armed angry, government hating, White men, whose FBI profiles would likely reveal little love for Black people, could've sparked others to join the fight.( Boy that was a long sentence.)
Instead, the authorities gave the Billy Bobs all the rope they needed to hang themselves. They gave them a chance to state their case, make their demands and then simply waited the Billy Bobs out. After the public could see the Billy Bobs for who and what they are, local and national news outlets did the rest. Observers like ourselves began calling them manes, calling them out and calling their bluff. Left looking stupid and clueless, it was only a matter of time.
If the government went in guns blazing and taking no prisoners after a fair warning, Billy Bobs could've started mounting militant responses all over the country. The thought of these uppity Black government tyrants wiping their feet on the constitution, while killing fellow patriots and militiamen could've been too much for the Billy Bobs to swallow. Fully aware redneck Billy Bobs have been preparing for such a day, the Obama administration had to handle this tinderbox tenderly.
Armed with fully automatic weapons and known for stockpiling thousands of rounds of ammunition in basements, garages and storage units everywhere, along with enough survival food kits these redneck Billy Bobs could've wreaked havoc wherever they decided to take a stand.
America could've seen more incidents like the Oklahoma City bombing attack. America could have seen more church bombings. And America's law enforcement could've taken the brunt of the uptick in violence. Because of patients, calm and a thoughtful approach, America could've just avoided a national tragedy and an international embarrassment.
Bottom line: While the Billy Bobs talked like lions in the beginning, but fought like lambs in the end, improperly dealt with they could've been inspired to the next level. Sane people all over this country must remain vigilant, as there's redneck Billy Bobs plotting, scheming, preparing and arming themselves for a final showdown. And next time... Podcast Below
