If you're a Bernie Sanders supporter and you've got the patience, commitment and drive to keep the Sanders message alive until 2020, you might have a better than 50/50 chance of shifting the balance of power back to the people. And if things pan out as we're predicting they will between now and then, the country should be more than primed to reconsider another way forward. Well, that's what logical would indicate.
However, logic and politics rarely coincide comfortably because ignorance and corruption trumps logic every time it rears its sensible head. If America thought logically, the issues of universal healthcare, living wages, income inequality and a strong social safety net would have been addressed years ago. If America thought logically, racism, gun violence, the war on drugs, mass incarceration, poverty, high school dropout rates and the cost of a college education would have been solved decades ago. After all, this is America in the 21st Century.
Unfortunately, America in the 21st century has become so illogical, it's safe to logically conclude, few if any of the issues cited above will even be addressed beyond mere lip-service, let along solved in the next four years. And, despite our disappointing predictions for the country during the upcoming administration, it's also logical to conclude, no matter how primed the country is for change, many will simply fall back in line and fall back asleep again. A simply cursory examination of past behavior will support this assessment.
If all this sounds awfully depressing, don't worry, its a logical reaction to a completely illogical situation. Logically speaking, what's needed now is a logical response to this illogical situation. If you're a Bernie Sanders supporter and you don't have the patience, commitment or drive to keep his message alive four more years, only to observe ignorant voters led by corrupt politicians fall back in line and fall back asleep again, logic would have you looking for an exit strategy or an escape plan. If America's logic isn't working for you, the logical next step is to find another place to live where people live logically.
Be advised, this is not one of those depressed Liberal rants after a disappointing political loss where people start declaring they're moving to Canada, because they can't take it anymore. Besides, most of those people generally cool off fairly fast and eventually become the very ones you'll find back in line and sound asleep within two months after the campaign closes down. You know the types, those who'll set aside their principles for the benefit of Party unity. Those who'll go along to get along. Those too afraid to try something new. And worse, those who just don't get and never will.
No, this conversation is meant for the truly fed up with the truly fucked-up. This conversation is for those who've had it with street protest, rigged political contest and the disenfranchising two Party system. This conversation is for those who've lived and traveled enough to appreciate civilized societies with humane socioeconomic models and want to experience that kind of life in their lifetimes. This is why going forward, our conversations will be about how to get the hell out of Dodge and finding the most affordable and efficient ways to do it.
Bottom line: For those still willing to fight the good fight, don't worry, we'll be with you in spirit right down to your bitter end. But henceforth, we're planning a very long trip and we hope to have some of you along for the ride. Until we return on Monday, check this Traveling Beyond Tourism site out and see what you think.
