Issues Under Fire: How Come Evil is Winning? Does God Need Help?
Barack Obama will be making his last address to the international community as President of the United States at the U.N. General Assembly in New York today. What he'll say as he departs the world stage should be interesting, considering he's leaving it pretty much in the same condition he found it to be eight years ago. The Middle East is still enflamed, global terror is on the rise and racial, ethnic and religious intolerance continue to spread around the planet like a plague without a cure.
As long as women in India can be raped by gangs of men on a public bus or young Nigerian girls can be forced to endure genital mutilation or Palestinian boys can be shot and killed by Israeli authorities for throwing stones or unarmed Black men can be shot and killed by police during routine traffic stops without anyone being held accountable, we'd say something is seriously wrong with the world. Let's face it, if 500,000 of Syria's men, women and children can be slaughtered while global power-players fiddle as that nation burns in the 21st century, one must admit, the outlook for humanity doesn't look so good. But it gets worse.
If one is astute enough to realize that the so-called "one percent" literally owns most of the world now and seem unwilling to share, its safe to say, life moving forward will be increasingly difficult for everyone no matter where they happen to live. Because international trade agreements are generally constructed in the interest of multinational corporations, issues like income inequality, protecting the environment, climate change and the health and welfare of the very young and old will be de-emphasized in favor of increased profits. In other words, greed and selfishness rule.
If one can accept the aforementioned as a reasonable assessment of where the world stands these days, then one should be prepared to ponder the age old question of whether Good or Evil is in control. From this observer's perspective, the answer is obvious; we're fucked and have been for quite sometime. The pendulum that separates these entities has swung so far and forcefully in the direction of Evil, it's difficult to envision Humanity having the strength to resist its momentum. If that's the case, Humanity is going to need help and a lot of it.
Unfortunately, Humanity's only defense against Evil throughout the history of humankind has been God. And faithfully so, people have been screaming for God's help for more than two millennia, without so much as a "Yo Wuz-Up" in response. The world is in pain. People are hungry, hurting and afraid of the future, yet not a word or a sign to let them know that someone in high places cares. At this point, one has to wonder why. After all, what can be more important than keeping Humanity from being devoured by Evil? If nothing else, one would think God would have pity for the children.
Some people are content with the "God works in mysterious ways" concept, while others feel we're not worthy of God's attention. Still others say people are responsible for their own lot in life because there is no God. But we say, they're all wrong because we think we've got the answer. God isn't ignoring the world and God isn't pissed off at it either. Have you ever considered the possibility that God could be sick or tired? It must take an infinite amount of energy to be "the Almighty" all the time. Maybe God is just worn out.
Could it be, true believers have been so concerned and consumed with their own problems, they never realized God may not be up to the task 24/7? What if God does have limitations? What if God's struggle with Evil has taken a toll over the billions of years their battle has raged? What if the Dark-side simply gets the better of God from time to time? As unfathomable as that may seem to many, what if that were the case? What if God needs our help? Now that's a scary thought.
Bottom line: Since heretofore, the only way to reach God has been through prayer, and we know that don't work, we've developed a more reliable method of making contact. And when we do, we'll ask God on behalf of all Humanity the two questions we're sure no one has ever asked "the Almighty one" before. God, are you Okay and is there any thing we can do to help you? Come back tomorrow for God's answer. If nothing else, it's got to be interesting. Podcast below.
