Progressives and Democrats Look for Russian Hacking in Recount, While The World Moves On
Just when we're poised to put the U.S.' 2016 elections behind us in order to move on to more pressing issues, up pops a strange and baffling mystery that must be examined before the final chapter of this cockamamie episode in American history can be officially closed. And since asking voters to spend millions to recount votes in three so-called battleground states that'll have absolutely no impact on the outcome of the election qualifies as a strange and baffling mystery, we're forced to explore it, if only out of curiosity. Let's take a look, shall we?
While Jill Stein reportedly only got 1% of the vote in the general election, for some odd reason she's targeted a goal of raising $7 million to recount the votes in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan. Joined by Hillary Clinton, the two loosing campaigns have decided to investigate the possibility of "Russian" hacking activities even though neither were prepared to provide a shred of evidence that suggested the elections were compromised in any way. In fact, the Obama administration issued a statement to the NY Times in response to questions regarding the federal government's investigation into the integrity of the Nov. 8th presidential election. The following is the gist of that statement:
The Kremlin probably expected that publicity surrounding the disclosures that followed the Russian Government-directed compromises of e-mails from U.S. persons and institutions, including from U.S. political organizations, would raise questions about the integrity of the election process that could have undermined the legitimacy of the President-elect. Nevertheless, we stand behind our election results, which accurately reflect the will of the American people.
The Federal government did not observe any increased level of malicious cyber activity aimed at disrupting our electoral process on election day. As we have noted before, we remained confident in the overall integrity of electoral infrastructure, a confidence that was borne out on election day. As a result, we believe our elections were free and fair from a cybersecurity perspective.
Still, Marc Elias, the Clinton team's general counsel, said they'd had lawyers, data scientists and analysts combing over the results to spot anomalies that would suggest a hacked result since the day after the election. Yet finding nothing, the Clinton campaign, along with the Green Party's Stein, persevere in pursuing any explanation for the inexplicable victory of Donald Trump, who only seized upon this act of desperation to ridicule the effort. Donald "The Twittiot" tweeted, the whole recount push is ridiculous and a scam. Trump then suggested most of the money raised probably wouldn't even go to the recount effort. But, being a class A scam artist himself, Trump would think such things, considering he too, without a shred of evidence, claimed he'd have won the popular vote as well, if millions didn't vote illegally.
However, sensible minds have every reason to wonder what motive could possibly be behind this tremendous waste of time, energy and resources for something that's certain to produce so little. This is a time for Democrats, Progressives and Liberals to prepare for the future. These resources would've gone a long way to educate, recruit and mobilize their bases for 2018 and 2020 elections. Those millions would have been better used to invest in Green, Progressive and Liberal media outlets to get their messages out, their voices heard and their demands known. These groups are going to need financing to support grassroots organizing all over the country. One has to wonder, WTF are they thinking? Just let it go!
Democrats should be focused on ridding their Party of the scum that did them in. Replacing Harry Reid with Chuck Schumer as Senate minority leader was not the answer. Keeping Nancy Pelosi as minority leader in the House of Representatives would be just as ludicrous. Failing to add fresh, new faces to force a break with the past will only come back to haunt Party loyalists later. At the same time, Progressives and Liberals should be preparing to offer disaffected Democrats a place to land when their Party inevitably lets them down. And it will, because the Democratic Establishment remains in denial or simply defiant.
Bottom line: While America is recounting votes, the world is moving on and moving on fast. Fidel Castro is dead. What will this mean going forward? Turkey just threatened to open the migrant floodgates to Europe this week over a major dispute with the E.U. What's this all about? Pakistan and India, two nuclear armed nations, are fighting over Kashmir (again) and it's getting serious this time. Vladimir Putin stated Russia has no borders at a public event this weekend. Sure, Putin later said he was joking, but few living in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are laughing out loud this morning. The Israelis just announced plans to build 500 more settler homes in East Jerusalem, which is sure to trigger a violent response from the Palestinians. BTW, we all know what this means. And while all of the above is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, we've been advised Donald Trump is ignoring his daily intelligence briefings. We don't have time for this and neither do "We the People". Podcast below.
The world has moved on.
