Donald Trump Attacks Syria, But Something Is Not Quite Right
Today, the New York Times posted this headline: What We Know and Don't Know About the Missile Attack on Syria. And this gave us reason for pause, because the New York Times never posted a headline that read: What We know and Don't Know About the Gas Attack in Syria. Somehow, these headlines seemed backwards or upside down. Shouldn't we know for certain who did what and why in the gas attack, before we start examining the effectiveness of the missile attack? We've got questions and so should you.
Considering no independent investigation has been completed to establish who was responsible for exposing Syrian civilians to banned chemical agents, it's perfectly rational to wonder how events could've evolved into launching 59 Tomahawk missiles against the Assad government so quickly. Considering Donald Trump's proclivity for making accusations without providing a shred of proof, it's perfectly rational to wonder why America's mainstream media is covering this event as though they've accepted Donald Trump's account without question. Well, we don't!
The White House says the Syrian government inhumanely gassed its own people. The current story is, Bashar al-Assad (The Monster) committed this horrible act for all the world to see. Apparently, Mr. Assad is so evil and or insane, he would openly invite international condemnation and sanctions, just to satisfy his insatiable thirst for bloodshed and human misery. And we are also being led to believe the Russians are helping him commit these war crimes and crimes against humanity. And while this could all be true, it just don't seem very likely. While witness accounts say these chemical agents were delivered by Syrian and Russian jets, there's been no confirmation of these claims thus far by anyone but the rebels themselves. There is no upside to this action. To attack civilians with banned chemical weapons when you're winning the war, makes no sense.
Damascus and Moscow say their "conventional" air strikes targeted a legitimate weapons depot and unknowingly struck and exploded chemical weapons that were being stored there. While the media is reporting this story is being challenged by experts, none of those experts have placed any evidence before the public for independent scrutiny. If one had to make a decision as to which story to believe, we'd have to say, Damascus and Moscow are making a far more plausible argument than what's being told in Washington. Is it possible rogue elements in the Syrian government went off script and did something crazy? The short answer is yes, but there are too many other possibilities to consider before jumping to to that conclusion.
Bottom line: While no one will disagree somebody has to pay a price for what happened to the victims of the gas attack in Syria, the fact remains, this story is moving way too fast for comfort. Something is not right. Something else is going on. Somebody is lying. And until we find out the who and the why, we would have to say Donald Trump's missile attack against Syria was premature and if so, unjustified. Podcast below.
