Issues Under Fire: The National Action Network, North Korea, Afghanistan

The National Action Network, North Korea, Afghanistan
It's a big week here at RetroVison Media, as we've decided to cover Rev. Al Sharpton's annual National Action Network Conference at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel in NYC. The event will give us an opportunity to meet with high profile Democrats to determine what, if anything new, is being offered to the hungry masses moving forward. Billed as "Everything Is At Stake", the week long conference's mission will attempt to address everything from voting rights and police accountability, to healthcare and worker's rights, as well as a women's right to choose.
With political headliners like former Attorney General Eric Holder, Chairman of the DNC, Tom Perez and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo scheduled to attend, according to NAN's slick brochure, the goal of the conference is to discuss the essential role of organizing and how to continue effective mobilizing in the Trump era. The conference will also include Bernie Sanders, although we're still trying to confirm precisely what day and time he's expected to make an appearance.
The conference, scheduled to run from April 26th thru April 29th, has also attracted the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Harry Belafonte, Spike Lee, and a host of noteworthy journalists, educators and Black intellectuals. Many will speak as panelists to share their insights, observations and expertise to deal with the challenges facing people of color under the rule of Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions. Along with a full compliment of political and social activists, the conferences promises to be one worth you time. BTW, did we forget to mention this conference is free to the public.
In other news:
North Korean is on high alert. South Korea is on high alert. China is on high alert. Russia is moving troops and military assets to the North Korean border, just in case. Just in case of what, we don't know exactly, but with a nuclear armed battle group carrying out war games in the midst of a war of words between two unstable leaders like Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump, we couldn't bail on our foreign policy coverage this week. Besides, Afghanistan is heating up again.
Yeah, that's the other news. After Donald Trump dropped the Mother of All Bombs on ISIS fighters last week, there was a response. The Taliban attacked and killed at least 140 Afghan soldiers at a key army base in northern Afghanistan. Currently, the U.S. and its so-called coalition forces are battling the Taliban, ISIS and Al Qaeda at the same time in Afghanistan.
Despite the untold billions spent recruiting, training and arming the Afghan army, they've proven to be useless when it comes to defending themselves or their country. We're concerned because Donald Trump has just abdicated his responsibility of managing U.S. military involvement to his generals and the generals always want more troops. Where this is going is anybody's guess, but it doesn't take much imagination to conclude the outcome will be deadly, expensive and unending.
Bottom line: Well, this is as awkward, as it is rare. Trying to squeeze three important stories into one post is difficult enough. But with all three events still very much in play, a bottom line is impossible to reach until all the facts have been obtained and analyzed. Still, we did our level best. Podcast below. Updates to follow.
