Issues Under Fire: Did 140 Characters Seal Trump's Fate?

Did 140 Characters Seal Trump's Fate?
Finally, we got some good news to share. We want to be among the first to report, that the probability of Donald Trump being impeached in the not too distant future has gone up exponentially. And it looks as though he's actually increasing that probability himself. After alluding to the possibility of having taped his now infamous dinner conversation with fired FBI Director James Comey, Donald Trump may have Tweeted the tweet that sealed his fate. If you've got a moment, we'll explain.
It went like this: "James Comey better hope there are no 'tapes' of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press." Yes, in our opinion, those simple, but ill advised words of anger will be the cause of Donald Trump's fall. By making that not so veiled threat, Donald Trump has placed himself in the position of having to prove James Comey told Trump he was not under investigation. And according to Trump's intimations, the proof is on those tapes.
Well, those tapes, if they exist, are now considered evidence in the court of public opinion and Trump will have to produce them. Democrats are already calling on the White House to turn the tapes over to Congress for review. And it won't be much longer before Republicans are forced to join those calls. If the White House decides to fight Congress over the releasing of the tapes, the administration will be deemed as being in contempt of Congress and that's when the collapse of the administration begins. And believe it or not, the Republicans will be playing a major role in the process. They'll have no choice. To do otherwise would only invite suspicions of culpability.
But wait, we have to consider the other complicating scenario. What if the tapes don't exist? What if Donald Trump was just FOS? What if Trump's threat was just another of his many regrettably dumb and fact-free Tweets? Lacking any impulse control, perhaps the Tweet was simply a knee-jerk reaction to the mounting pressure of an investigation closing in on him. Let's face it, when pressured, Donald Trump's default position has proven to be to lie and keep lying no matter how many facts get in the way. Trump has done this so often, he's lost all credibility and nobody will believe him if he tries to deny the existence of any taped conversations. This is the fate of most pathological liars.
To date, the only reason Trump has been tolerated by the Republican establishment, Wall Street and special interest, is because they're relying on him to deliver massive corporate tax cuts, reform the tax code and generate billions for private contractors from the passing of a trillion dollar infrastructure Bill. And the only reason Trump has enjoyed unwavering support from his core base is because of his promise to repeal and replace Obama-Care and bring high wage jobs back to America. But when loaded key words and phrases like subpoenas, criminal investigations, obstruction of justice and impeachment proceedings overshadow a presidency, it's difficult to see that administration getting anything accomplished.
Bottom line: Donald Trump has finally become the liability many suspected he would be. In less than four months in the Oval Office, Trump has proven to be bad for the GOP, bad for America and bad for Democracy. He has brought nothing to the White House but chaos, confusion and one crisis after another. Donald Trump has exposed himself as America's primary obstacle to progress of any kind and until that obstacle is removed, the country will remain at a standstill, if not worse. More on the worse part tomorrow. Podcast below.
