Donald Trump: Time to Shut Up and Lawyer Up
We may be in for a drought when it comes to Donald Trump's Tweets, for even a man as dense as he, may have finally realized the dire consequences that compulsion has brought upon him. Unfortunately, it's far too late for that now. The die has been cast. There's blood in the water and the sharks are closing in for the kill. Appointing Robert Mueller Special Counsel to take charge of the Russia investigation was meant to send a message. You have the right to an attorney, so, you should shut up and get one. We say that's fair warning. So let the games begin.
Caught in a web of his own making, Donald Trump is facing a legal nightmare. Think of it; one of America's most respected top cops has just resigned from what had to be a lucrative partnership with the prestigious law firm of WilmerHale to place a target on your back. Mr. Mueller will have only one file on his desk - yours! He's been given all the authority and unlimited resources to focus like a laser on you, your family, who you associate with and of course your business connections and dealings. As Special Counsel, Mueller can investigate Donald Trump's butt-hole if he suspected crimes were being committed there. Yeah, a Special Counsel can be a pain in the ass.
While no one has lived a perfect life and everyone has something to hide, somehow when it comes to Donald Trump, one can imagine him having all sorts of skeletons hidden in his closet. And one can also imagine Donald Trump having all sorts of enemies eagerly awaiting an opportunity to help expose those skeletons. When hardcore loyalists are pressured, they too, will share what they know. It won't be long before Trump is left alone. He'll be toxic. The Republican elites will turn their backs on him and support beyond the nincompoops in his base will be hard to find.
Having surrounded himself with those of similar character, his Machiavellian mind will fester with paranoia. And that paranoia will be more than justified, because any one of those in his inner circle could be leaking damaging stories to the press, ratting him out to House, Senate and FBI investigators or worse, an opportunist. In meetings, he'll scan the room wondering who's stabbing him in the back. He'll start firing people on the spot. He'll believe cleaning house is the answer. It won't be. Replacing the fired will be difficult. Finding people you can trust when you're in a state of paranoia is impossible. The whispers will start.
People will begin to question Donald Trump's judgment and those questions will be justified. The stress and strain of the investigation will become visible. He'll take on weight, become irritable and easily agitated. He'll eventually surmise everyone is out to get him. He'll say the press is trying to bring him down as the daily coverage dissects every new revelation of Trump's once private world. He'll rant and rave about the unfairness of it all, but no one listen. No one will care. Besides, the media will be having too much fun.
Whenever Trump turns on the TV, there'll be reports of the administration's latest scandal, resistance movements popping up everywhere, protest marches and demonstrations leading the headlines. He'll long for the days on the campaign trail when adoring crowds hung on his every word. But that'll all be slowly slipping away, as the pressure relentlessly mounts and takes its toll.
The world will be fixated. No one will want to turn away. This will be a spectacle of epic proportions. Only this spectacle will come at Donald Trump's expense. He'll have no one to blame but himself, although that won't stop him from trying. He'll throw anyone under the bus to save his ass, but charges will stick, some history will be made and Donald Trump will flame out like a flash in the pan. Well, one can dream.
Bottom line: When Donald Trump took the Oath of Office on 01.20.2017 he thought being president was easy. He thought he was so smart he could run his company and the world at the same time. He thought he was smarter than the courts, the intelligence community and the Fourth Estate. He thought he could snap his fingers and get anything he wanted and get away with anything he wanted. It's the latter that got him in trouble. Donald Trump has no idea what it means to be President of the United States. If only he'd read a book every once in awhile. Podcast below.
