Unprepared, Donald Trump Takes Circus of Chaos on the Road
Facing mounting pressures from the nation's top law dog, Donald Trump will board Air Force One in a few hours to GTFO of Dodge for the next few days. Unfortunately, his circus of chaos will follow. We've examined Trump's itinerary and found all the places he's likely to screw-up. And unfortunately, Trump could screw up on every stop of this trip. There'll be plenty of opportunities for Trump to expose his ignorance, embarrass his country and further erode international confidence in the United States as leader of the free world. Let's get started.
According to National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, Trump will touch down in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to meet with King Salman on Saturday. While there, Trump will ignore Saudi Arabia's human rights record, sell the Saudis billions in arms and claim he got a good deal for the American arms manufacturers. But because those arms will be used to kill thousands of non-combatants in Yemen's civil war, this shortsighted screw-up could keep that conflict hot for years to come. Amnesty International will scream bloody murder, but Trump is oblivious to the realities of his actions in this region of the world.
On Sunday, Donald Trump is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with Gulf Cooperation Council leaders as well as broader meetings with Gulf states leaders. If Trump listens more than he talks, he might be able to hide his ignorance at this event. But later in the afternoon, Trump, of all people, is expected to deliver an "inspiring" speech to leaders of more than 50 Muslim countries on the need to confront radical ideology. With what the world knows of how Donald Trump really feels about Muslims, we wouldn't be surprised if Trump found himself dodging shoes being thrown at this event. But it only gets worse. Next stop, Israel.
On Monday, Trump is scheduled to travel to Jerusalem where he'll meet Israeli president Reuven Rivin and lay a wreath at Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center and deliver remarks at the Israel museum. If he puts on a yamaka and pretends he knows what's going on, he might pull it off. But later, he'll meet privately with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and have to explain how and why he spilled his guts to the Russians about Israeli intelligence gathering activities. And it's highly doubtful Trump has an answer for that screw-up yet. You can expect the Israelis to be pissed when Trump leaves.
On Tuesday, Trump is scheduled to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem. In this environment, anything could happen. If it's true that Donald Trump has a tendency to accept the view of the last person he's spoken to, after meeting with Abbas, Trump could be ready to move the U.S. embassy to Ramallah in the West Bank. Or, at the very least, invite himself into the Isreali-Palestinian conflict. Again, you can expect the Israelis to be pissed when Trump leaves.
On Wednesday, Trump is scheduled to meet with Pope Francis at the vatican. And one would think this would be the least controversial leg of the trip. But Donald Trump's traveling crisis will roll into Vatican City like everywhere else he's gone. If you'll recall, Pope Francis challenged Trump's Christian faith for campaigning so ferociously to build "The Wall" between Mexico and the U.S. Trump didn't take the Pope's criticisms lightly. This was Trump's response to the Holy Father: "For a religious leader to question a man's faith is disgraceful." Trump also said: "Now I know that's going to be all over the world, but who the hell cares? Ok? I don't care." While we're sure Pope Francis ain't the kinda guy to hold a grudge, the possibility of a few tense moments remains a concern.
On Thursday, Trump will face a tighter schedule, as he'll head to Belgium for a chat with King Philippe and Prime Minister Charles Michael before squeezing in a working lunch with newly elected French president Emmanuel Macron. Again, these events should be a piece of cake, but only if Trump can keep from talking too much. It's his talk and tweets that create the chaos. Unfortunately, Trump is scheduled to deliver remarks at the unveiling of NATO's memorial in front of a piece of the Berlin wall and the World Trade Center. Here's where the wheels could come off.
Donald Trump's on again off again relationship with NATO has been disturbing Europe from the day he declared the alliance obsolete and a bunch of freeloaders for not kicking in their fair share. Since Trump's position on NATO's value and relevance has flipped and flopped so wildly in recent weeks, those in attendance are aware they can expect more of the same. Trump's ignorance of the NATO alliance will be on full display. There'll be no hiding the fact that he is clueless as to NATO's history. Members will understand this. They'll be respectful, tactful and diplomatic. And Donald Trump will leave never realizing they know how little he knows.
Finally, Friday, Trump's last stop will be in Sicily to meet with Italy's Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni. This event shouldn't present too much of a challenge to stay on script, as long as Donald Trump doesn't order spaghetti and meatballs to go. The worrisome part of his day will came when Trump attends the G-7 Summit. As per the gathering of NATO members, the G-7 Summit members are well aware Trump is clueless as to how the world works, let alone the capacity to grasp complex issues like the interconnectivity of global economics in the 21st century. Again, Donald Trump will leave that event never realizing they know how little he knows.
Bottom line: Why someone with sense enough to understand Donald Trump is not ready for prime time allowed him to take this trip before he was properly prepared is a mystery to be solved. No one should know how little Donald Trump knows. Trump's ignorance should be classified "TOP SECRET", as a matter of national security. Podcast below
