Issues Under Fire: North Korea, Hurricanes & Wildfires
For people like us who thrive on chaos, returning after a long tumultuous summer on this 9/11 provided just the spark of imagination needed to tell some interesting and eye-popping stories. After all, the threat of the U.S. going to war with a nuclear armed North Korea, led by an unstable, unpredictable egomaniac in the White House, is about as interesting and eye-popping as it gets.
Think about it - Donald Trump is talking "Fire and Fury" and Kim Jong-un is talking "Bring It". How the hell this story ends, one can only guess. But since we've got so much to cover this week, we'll skip the middle and cut to the chase. North Korea has already won this conflict. Please allow us to explain.
Now that North Korea has demonstrated to the world they've developed a nuclear arsenal, as well as the capability to deliver it with some degree of accuracy, what you'll hear from the White House going forward is face-saving noise. If there was any way to stop North Korea from attaining nukes, it would have been done already.
The United States have had far more capable administrations deal with this issue and all arrived at the same conclusion. North Korea will not back down. After detonating a 100 kiloton nuke triggering a 6.3 magnitude earthquake on Sept. 3 that could be felt in Japan, even a comparative numskull like Donald Trump should understand, to keep F-ing with these people is not a good idea.
At this stage of the conflict, South Korea, China, Russia nor Japan have the stomach for war and are trying to do everything in their powers to avoid one. And although they've all agreed to placate the U.S. demands to sanction the rogue nation, all agree sanctions will not change Pyongyang's attitude toward self defense. If our analysis is correct, the Trump administration will be forced to walk-back its reckless rhetoric and accept the inevitable. North Korea is a nuclear power.
Bottom line: M.A.D. Mutually Assured Destruction was always North Korea's goal and they have achieved it. If you F with them they will F with you. And they'll eat dirt and drink muddy water to make good on that threat. On the other hand, the U.S. can't persuade Americans to sacrifice everything for anything. Americans want to live and they want to live well. Americans want to thrive, not just survive. America will eventually change its tune. There is no other option. End of story! Podcast below. And BTW, we didn't forget the hurricanes and wildfires. We deal with it all in the podcast below. So listen and share.
