Issues Under Fire: "45" Announces Ominous "The Calm Before the Storm" Remark , But WTF?
While flanked by senior military officials and their wives for a hastily assembled photo shoot, "45" cryptically warned the world that this might be "the calm before the storm." Clearly caught off guard, reporters pressed for details. "What storm, Mr. President? ISIS? North Korea? Iran? But in typical "45" fashion, he gave his usual dramatic, cliffhanging, made for Reality TV response: "You'll find out". In other words, stay tuned for the next exciting chapter of Trump's world. However, if you're asking yourselves WTF is this moron talking about, you're not alone, because these are dangerous times.
This week we learned "45" is no longer interested in negotiating with Pyongyang's "Little Rocket Man". Despite U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's efforts to develop and maintain direct talks with North Korean officials to reduce the inflammatory rhetoric, he was very publicly told, diplomacy was a waste of his time and the United States would do what had to be done. But if diplomacy is no longer an option, does the "calm before the storm" statement mean a preemptive strike against Kim Jong-un is imminent? Should South Koreans start heading for bomb shelters? Has Japan been notified? What are people living on the island of Guam thinking today?
This week we learned "45" is preparing to decertify the Iran nuclear deal on the grounds that it is not in the national interest. Despite the fact that this unilateral agreement was struck by the United Nations' five permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany, and closely monitored by the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) for verification of compliance, "45" has decided to make good on his misguided and ill conceived campaign promise to renege on the United States' commitment. One has to wonder, if "45" has spoken with all other parties concerned of his decision or do they remain in the dark with the rest of the world?
This week, we learned that "45" is woefully out of sync with his generals when it comes to the Iran nuclear deal. Appearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Secretary of Defense, general Jim Mattis, was asked if he thought it was in America's national interest to remain in the JCPOA ( The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) the formal term for the Iran deal. His answered was an unequivocal, yes.
General Mattis also went so far as to say, absent any evidence to suggest Iran is not living up to the agreement, it is something the president should consider staying with. Mattis' view was also shared by General Joseph F. Dunsford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in saying, "Iran is not in material breech" of the deal and that the agreement has delayed the development of nuclear capability by Iran. So, if the deal ain't broken, why break the deal?
Bottom line: By all accounts and by any reasonable measure, the individual in the Oval Office, masquerading as leader of the free world, is a dangerous compilation of discombobulating complexities. Some have simply defined that complicated descriptor as "MORON" and they may be right. But considering "45's" proclivity for disruption and distraction, we think "MORON" understates the seriousness of the problems we face. Podcast below.
